CHAPTER 1

The warm summer breeze whipes against my face and brings a smile to my lips as I turn around too look at my husband, who walks towards me to hold my hand and say his mornings and see you soon‘s as he sends himself too teach his boys. I do love this view on king street but it seems to be like all I can give for a day, or even a week to spend time with my husband to not mourn over his absences. I watch him fade into the distance on his horse while I hear him clink his burs on the side.

“ you may be a pain to my eye but I sure do love thee. ”

I head down Kings Street to my fathers shop too see if any had bought it yet. As I reach the front door I hear a voice calling thy name, a beautiful deep, masculine voice.

“ Jemmima Emerson-Reid. How is my fair little lady? ”

It was my husband, John Micheal Reid a former teacher at Kings schools for boys.

“ oh you are too much for me to handle sometimes! ” I blush.

“ oh really, I thought thats when were in bed!? ” he smirks.

I blush again, I gasp “ oh! John! You are profound to be! ”

He grabs me around my body and teases me with excitement to distract me from opening the shops door.

“ well well, why isn’t Mr. and Mrs. Reid, having fun you too? ”

I look up to this t’all dark haired man with a deep voice, my older brother Daniel Emmerson.

John clears his throat. “ we were just leaving! ”

My face turns bright pink from embarrassment as John made fun of it.

“ why’d you stop by Dan? ” I smiled.

He gave me this look like I expect too much from him. I blush again.

“ well, just too say good evening. Shouldn’t I not? ” he gave me a evil smirk of mockery.

“I would be happy to notice.”

“ what brings you here too speak with thee dan?”

Dan clears his throat with excitement news.

“ Beth and I are putting on a ball tonight at the grande employeh! And we’d sure expect you two too join.”

“ don’t we have something going on tonight John? Something important”

John hesitates. “ no. No! We’d love to join!”

Dan smiles. “ great! The ball starts at 7 p.m. end at midnight”

I exhale with annoyance.

John turns around. “ what?”

“ well I got to go now, I hope too see you there! Bye Jem”

I try too unlock the door but it’s stuck with the key inside of the key hole.

“OPEN! YOU FOWLED DOOR.”

John gives a blank stare. “Jem honey, I think you should...”

“ I SHOULD WHat?... calm down!”

John knows better to leave me alone when I get annoyed. The door finally opens, I walk through with anger.

“ Jem. Please, tell me why you are so upset? I want to help”

I look at him while he gives me the sad eyes. I cannot resist.

“ I am sorry... I didn’t mean to yell at you. I’m just overwhelmed”

“ about what? Dan? Me?”

I give him a kiss on the cheek.

“ the ball tonight. I don’t have a nice gown to wear, only the one mother wore to her’s. I couldn’t possibly buy a new one it’s too much to afford.”

John lifts my chin to meet eachother eyes.

“ my sweet love. Money is nonsense to me. I will buy you a new gown for tonight. One that will make all the girls jealous, to make all the men talking.” He smirks.

I love it when he dashed me like this, it give me purity and excitement.

“ so? What do you say, my queen”

I look at him while I bit my lower lip.

“ I say yes”.

John gives me a little twirl, as we exit the shop.

John and I arrive at the tailor to find me my gown. I find this one gown that I feel like myself but John, himself, doesn’t care for it.

John gives me this look that I don’t recognize from the years we’ve known eachother.

 “what is it John?”

He looks at me with a blank star. “nothing...”

There must be something he’s hiding. I hate it when he keeps things from me and he knows it.

“ what about this one?”

I wait for an answer but I hear none. I look around and I see none. The Rises while the quietness extends. I think to myself. What if yee had lost it. I couldn’t despise anyone if so. I wouldn’t blame them.

“ Jem, come here” a voice from a far.

“ where the hell have you been? I’ve been looking all over for you.” John said in a Strick and worried tone.

I look at him with shock. “ what do thee mean? I didn’t wonder off.”

He gave me this blank look. His eyebrows farrowed down. “What’s going on. Do you need support?”

“ support on what?”

“ YOU JUST WONDERED OFF JEM.”

He softened his presence, fell to his knees, hugged me around my waist. “please don’t play me like this Jemima. I thought I lost you.”

I broke into tears. “ I...I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I think the heat is getting to me.”

“ the heat must. You always act strange when the weather is on its point.”

I close my eyes.

“ please don’t cry my little one.”  He says as he wipes my tear from my cheek.

“ let’s go back home Jem. You need rest before the ball tonight. Let’s get you freshened up.”

We both walk back home down Kings street on a distance view from afar.
