The House On Wood Lane

Prologue

I have a very strange imagination. My mind forces me into seeing things that aren’t there. Paranoia always bests me in everything I do, especially at night.

I’ve had my fair share of paranormal experiences. All when I was alone, at night. I thought a fresh start in a new town would help, I was wrong.

Chapter 1

Wood Lane. I will never forget it. The    houses were fairly new, except one. It was made in the 19th century, therefore, it was bound to be old and wasted away. My house was mordernized and new. Every other house was.

I had old friends in this town. Most from high school, as I kept in touch with them. They could walk those streets blindfolded. Not one of them ever went into that house, or even near it.

The first night I came into town, I strolled through the town. Nothing had been moved in, except a bed and a couch. I didn’t have anything else to do.

The house caught my eye. My body felt out of control. There was a negative energy coming from the house. I glimpsed at the top window. Red covered it, and the curtains were drawn. I jumped out of my skin.

“Jen, is that you?” Henry exclaimed. He was an old friend, and boyfriend, from high school. We had always been close, even after we broke up. “What are you doing in this town, and by this house?”

“Just want to travel. I was just walking by the house.” I lied. I haven’t seen him in years, and I definitely wasn’t going to tell him why I was actually here. Not now. Not in front of that house.

Henry stumbled away, and I decided to go home too. Without thinking, I got into my pyjamas and went straight to bed. Instantly, I fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter 2

I awoke to a thump in my house. Realisation hit me: I forgot to lock the front door. That’s what I told myself, anyway.

I grabbed my phone and switched on the flashlight. The battery was low. Cacophonous noises came from the living room. The door creaked open.

Nothing was there. Nothing had moved. I thought it was all in my mind, as usual. However, shadows filled the room. I leaped back into bed. Eventually, I went back to sleep.

The sun shone into my room. I remembered last night to the detail. After I got dressed, I wandered outside. Henry was staring at my house.

His eyes were filled with darkness. No eyes to actually be seen. I nudged him, being cautious not to be violent.

“Henry? Are you alright?” I stammered, confused and frightened.

“He is angry with you. You shouldn’t have looked into his window. Go apologise, or else he will steal your soul.” He replied. However, his voice was deeper and more monotone. I ran away, as fast as my legs could carry me.
