My Life

1921. My year wasn’t it...oh hey, I'm Josh Welderman and this is my story. She made me. I didn't want to. Here I go. I'm sorry...first...Charlotte don't hurt me.

‘JOSHHH, you must or else!’ She yelled as she would always. The door creaked open. Silence. It kept creaking till I saw a shadow on the wall walking in. ‘Charlotte! I hope you realise this boy has...the power to...all..resources.’ He snarled while he crept in, his black robes falling down as he entered. He had a white long beard and rest...in black. ‘Ah, Leo...take a seat I hope your better at talking than 'the spare'’ I heard that name before, 'the spare' In a book, it was not a familiar book to day to day life, I found it in my mothers library. Stories like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast or even Sleeping Beauty always were a great story, to find...I'm just like them...I'm alone, no one to help me.

I crept out the door and ran down the spiral stairs in the tower. I reached the 3rd floor. I wondered into the library and picked up a book. I thought it was Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, but I was wrong. I slid it in my bag unaware. I ran up the spiral stair case to my room. It was cold, dark, misty and mysterious. With only a bed, a desk and chair I used what I could. I looked on the front of the book. Ways to Defeat a Spare. I was 'the spare' I openeded the book and started to read. I followed the pages carefully with my finger: At first they will develop skills of wizardry, then find the only way to protect themselves was...murder. It really was true I was the Spare. ‘Josh! Don't read that!’ Shrieked my mother. I put the book down and fetched the water. I came back up and heard the whispering. I put my ear against the door and listened to what I thought was the death of me. ‘Slave huh? Charlotte, I hope you do realise-‘

‘I know, and I will...’ She interrupted, smirking. ‘9 o'clock sharp!’ She yelled. ‘He won't escape this time’ She laughed. ‘Not at all...’

Escape

‘Leo, do you think he should, well come...’ She said. I kept my ear to the door. Crash! At that point I ran for my life. The shelf collapsed onto the floor. Flasks breaking, acids over the floor...impossible to just fall. ‘JOSH JAMES WELDERMAN!!!!!’ She looked at the floor in anger. ‘WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??!??!!??’ She shrieked. Oh no, the book. I ran into the library grabbed the book and ran outside into the forest. The dog for work called Timber followed shortly behind. ‘COME ON BOY, LETS GO, GO GO!!!’ I shouted at him, with a slight smile on my face. I was going far away were she couldn't find me. I checked my pockets. Fortunetly, I had a 50 pound note for food and and subway pass. I ran into the city (a mile away) and found myself lost. I looked over at a man who was begging and felt bad. I looked into a pet shop and saw a beautiful red and golden laced lead and matching collar on display. ‘Oi, you there...I see you have a fine interest in that lead for this there dog!’ Said the homeless man. ‘I have the righ' money fer it!’ He let out his hand with another 10 pounds. Being me I refused it. ‘OH NO, I insist, good old doggeh would like it wouldn't 'e’ He yelled. I took the money and went into the shop.

‘Timber boy? Ya want it?!’ I bribed him with a treat. I looked at it. I realised something. It was 10 pounds. So, I still had more money. I paid for it and got it fitted. I went next door to buy some food and a subway pass. Also I brought some food for Timber. ‘You ready?’. I knew he was. I stepped onto the train and started moving. ‘Nice dog isn't it’ Said a girl to her mum. ‘I wonder if we can stroke it!’

‘Oh no we can't! It's probably dirty with flees and all sorts of muck!’ It pained me. Timber was good boy, sure he sometimes had flees and all, but it wasn't that bad! It kept moving  and moving till It stopped. ‘TAKE COVER!’ Yelled a voice. I ducked down I soon I saw a staff. ‘AGH? MUM WHY DOES THAT MAN HAVE A STICK!?’ Yelled the girl. It was my mother’s servant. I ran off the train. I was sprinting with Timber for what seemed like years, but it was only a matter of minutes. I got out a swig from my pocket and used it like a wand. Out of no where, a bolt of light came out the end of the stick. I kept shooting bolts of lighting. Suddenly, a red light came out of the tip of the stick. It clashed with the mans staff. “SHE’LL BE HAPPY” He Yelled. I had the urge to say something back. It kept coming. “SHE DIDN’T WANT ME ANYWAY, IM NOT COMING BACK! SO THINK AGAIN!!!! I yelled tightly grasping the stick. He flew away injured. I forced a little smile opon myself. 3 more came. ‘Oh no...JUST TELL HER IM NEVER COMING HOME!!!!’ I Yelled holding up my staff. One of them ran. ‘Oh Derik it’s ‘the spare’ your going to die in a matter of seconds.’ Said the one running away. He was right, he was going to die in a matter of seconds. With one swoop of my wand I killed him.

What now?

I got off at a street called Help Lane. I guess this was my new home. A new beginning. I was no longer a spare just, a regular old boy going up for adoption. The local adoption centre was across the street so I walked there. ’Ummm....hey? I'm homeless.’ I said to the worker. Children playing and laughing was the happiest I ever saw. ‘Oh, a new person...sure until you get a home’ She said smiling sweetly. I smiled back. ‘Oh you have a dog! It's wonderful, but...there's a section we're pets go follow me!’ I followed her into a dark room. She switched the lights on. ‘Well, I forget...it's your room he can stay in here with you, bathrooms are on the left and...money....we need to know why you need it!’ I nodded and put my stuff on a blue bed. This was better than that place. ‘Huh, this is better, RIGHT BOY?!? OK A ROUND OF CHASE?!?!’ I ran into the garden. ‘Come on boy! Come on! YOU CANT CATCH ME!!!’ I laughed. This was the best time of my life. Timber jumped on my back then jumped off. ‘He's special that boy, I just know it...very special’ Said one of the employees. I bribed him with a treat. ‘HEY, who's that your little friend! I'm surprised that dirty rat is allowed in!’ Said one of the older boys. ‘He's not a dirty rat. He's called Timber, and yes he's my friend.’ He was sniggering to his friends. ‘Ha, I was talking about you! No wonder your dog ran away!’ I looked around, were was he. I saw him, behind him. He jumped on his back and ripped his shirt off. The faces were priceless! ‘AGHH, GOOD DOGGY GOOD DOGGY!!!’ He screamed like a girl. He ran off like a baby. I sniggered. ‘Yeah, that's Tom, the bully. And I'm Danger.’ Said a slim boy.

Danger had dusty blonde hair, glasses that filled his face. He was very slim. Surprisingly, he had a dog called Rocky he was a black Great Dane.

‘Wanna hang out, since you have a dog to.’ Said Danger. Timber was a Beagle. I nodded. ‘Come on Rocky, were gonna play!’ He said as he called him over to play. I smiled. Was he gonna be my new friend? Was I gonna still get bullied by Tom? Will Charlotte ever find me? The questions rolled round in my head. ‘Oh wow, the two dog lovers are playing! How cute.’ Tom sniggered. I rolled my eyes. ‘Tom just leave us alone, it'all be good for your reputation!’ Danger said. I laughed a little. ‘JOSH! There’s something for you! Someone’s sent you a.....a big stick’ A employee said holding up what seemed to be a staff. I ran after it to get it. ‘Just don’t hurt anyone with it please.’ She said. I wouldn’t except maybe Tom. Danger gave me a look. I wasn’t sure if it was disgust or cluelessness. A letter was tied to it. It said: Use it well -T.B
