Chapter 1

Althea's pov

“For heaven's sake!” I screamed as I stood there in an empty room. “How does he always get away right before i come?!” I ask myself.

“Althea!” shouted Marcus from the other room. “Are you out of your mind?” he asked as he ran into the room in which I was standing.

“I’m giving up! He’s always a step ahead of me” I mumbled, still looking at the chair in front of me, in which he sat and in which I was going to kill him tonight. I slowly collapsed onto my knees and the thought of giving up was more and more tempting. In the corner of my eye I noticed that the blond male got down next to me.

“Althea, you are the best assassin in America! God knows maybe on earth and you are telling me you want to give up?” Marcus exclaimed.

“Fucking hell, I have been trying to kill that guy for 2 months now!” I said. The boy that I grew up with, that helped me get into being an assassin, that is my best friend was sitting here with me. Once again comforting me.

“You know… Sometimes good things come with time.” He says as a smirk forms on his face. I stare into his beautiful green eyes. Coming from the pupil I noticed a bit of the color yellow that blends in with a slight tint of orange which then blends with the green that fills the rest of his iris. After examining his eyes for a short while I slightly smirk and start to get up. Marcus straightens out his legs and gives me a hand. I quickly look around for my gun which I dropped somewhere and I see it laying right next to Quillion's chair. ‘The chair you were meant to kill him on tonight.’ I remind myself and my blood once again starts boiling out of anger. I walk over to get my gun and I notice something written on the chair. I frown and walk closer to it. My partner in crime walks over to me and also frowns once he notices what I'm looking at.

“Be warned honey, I'm coming for you” I read out loud. Me and Marcus exchanged worried looks. I get out my phone from a pocket in the black jeans I have on. I turn it on and a wallpaper with a photo of me and Marcus when we were 6 and eating ice cream pops up. I hear him giggle while I turn on my camera and take a picture of the writing on the chair.

“Do you want to go get ice cream now?” He asked. Before we came to try kill Quill, we were on our way to get ice cream but i noticed him in a chevrolet camaro, that was just like mine but it was all black as for mine its black too but it has led lights that light it up from the bottom. I told Marcus that we should follow it so we jumped into his silver Nissan GT- R and followed quill. Marcus parked a bit further from the mansion Quill drove into. We went to the back and climbed a huge, white wall that was surrounding his home or at least one of them. Once we got there I got out my gun and so did Marcus. We passed security and checked the house. Finally I walked passed a bedroom where I heard noises from. I stopped and gave Marcus a sign that quill must be there. He whispered for me to wait but I ignored it and went right in. It was a huge room. A bed for two in between two night stands and a desk with a tripped over chair. Quill standing there with his hands in the air but a smirk on his face. I felt my lips form into a smile exposing the happiness that moment was bringing me. Two long months that led to me killing him in his room finally.

“Sit down. Let me enjoy this moment” I ordered.

“Oh you waited so long for this. Haven’t you?” he sighed.

“I sure have” I admitted as Quill slowly sat down by his desk. All of a sudden we heard a loud bang in the other room. I stared into Quillion’s dark blue eyes

“Have you got someone here to save you?” I asked and made an ironic sad face.

“Maybe I do. Maybe I don’t” He answered and the smirk on his face got bigger.

“Go check Marcus.” I commanded without even facing him. “Are you crazy? I’m not leaving you here, alone with this psycho” He uttered.

“Marcus. Go. If something happens all I need to do is pull the trigger and he dies.” I insisted.

“Fine.” He groaned and left us alone.

“Finally.” I whispered.

“Oh wait a minute baby. You think this is the end??” He laughed.

“It is.” I said but the second I did Quillion pulled out a gun out of his back pocket. I’m not sure when he even reached for it but the next thing i know is he shoots and runs over to the window. “You missed” I yelled.

“Oh did i? Well maybe that’s  what i planned on doing anyways.” He said once again with that annoying on his face. I swear that smirk never gets off his face. “Goodbye princess.” He muttered and before i had a chance to react Quill already jumped out of the window. I ran over to the window to shoot him from there but I didn’t see him anywhere.

“For heaven's sake!” I screamed...

“You know what, let's go.” I finally answered after replaying the whole thing in my head. We got out of this house and I noticed that Quill's car was already gone. “I hate that motherfucker.” I muttered and Marcus shook his head in agreement.

“Marcus please!!!” I begged.

“No”

“Please!!!  We aren’t that far away from that bar!”

“I’ll be ending up having to drag you out of there.” He growled.

“I won’t get too drunk.”

“No.”

“How about you drop me off here and you can pick me up later? Or i can make it myself.”

“I would prefer to pick you up.”

“So...yes?”

“Ugh just because it was a hard day.”

“Thank you!” I yelled.

After five minutes he pulled over by a bar where I could go get some drinks and relax a bit.

“Thank you, really.” I said and kissed him onto his cheek.

“Be careful. Take your bag, you have pepper spray and a small dagger there. And give me your gun. I don't trust a drunk you with it.”

“Fine.” I answered and passed him my gun and took my bag. Little does he know I have another one just in case. “Bye.”

“Have fun sweetheart.”

“Don't call me that in front of all these people, some might think we’re together and i want to pull someone.”

“Yea, yea.” he said and drove away. As for me, I went into the bar and sat right next to the bar so I could get really good access to the alcohol.

“Hi, how may i help you?” asked a young, blond girl around 22 years old. I shouldn’t say girl since I’m only four years older. Probably.

“Hi, can we open a tab? I’ll pay at the end.”

“Ofcourse!”

“Great! First of all I can get a martini just for the beginning.”

“Sure! Anything else?”

“Uh, no that's it for now. Thank you.” After a minute a martini appeared right in front of me. “Thank you,” I said to the bartender. I finally started looking around the place. It was pretty cute. The walls were grey, and in the middle of the small bar was the bar station which I was sitting at. They had led lights around the place and right now they were purple but second they changed smoothly. There were a few seats around the bar station. There was some music playing in the background not too loudly but loud enough for it to annoy me.

“Hi!” Said someone with a deep manly voice. Although that person's voice was deep, I know a person with a voice even deeper.

“Hi!”I said with a smile on my face as I turned towards the speaker. It was a man with brown eyes and black hair. He looked tall but I’m not too sure if he is. He looks around my age and I noticed some facial hair slowly growing out.

“I’m Luke.” He said. Well I’m not saying my name unless he asks me then maybe I’ll think about it.

“Nice to meet you Luke.”

“What’s your name?”

“Oh well what’s the fun in knowing my name? I prefer being anonymous.”

“Come on, don’t be like that. I want to get to know you a bit. Please?”

“Fine. Well my name is…” I paused for a second to make it a bit more dramatic and then I thought… why not have a bit more fun? “Katherine.”

“Well nice to meet you Katherine.” He added and put out a hand for me to shake it.

“Oh...No I don’t do the shaking hands.”

“Why?” He asked

“Well why should I?” I asked and raised my eyebrows in a questionable reason. I took another sip of my drink before finishing it. “Hi, um can I get some Whisky?”

“Ofcourse!” said the bartender and passed me a glass with my order in it.

“Put it on my tab please!” I added before facing Luke again. You could see by his face that he was confused but also focused on something at the same time. I quickly looked at my outfit which was a pair of black skinny jeans, white converse and a white shirt. In addition i had my necklace that i got from Marcus on my 18th birthday, ever since that day i never took it off. I also have my hands packed with different rings, some that I bought myself, one that belonged to my mother and two that were Marcus's moms, basically my other moms kind of. On my ring finger I had a friendship ring that I got from Marucs. The reason it's specifically a friendship ring is because he owns one too, that matched mine perfectly.

“Well but why shouldn’t you though?” He broke the long silence.

“I don’t know. Maybe because I hate most people?” I confessed.

“Do you hate me?”

“I don’t even know you.” I laughed.

“You could get to know me if I could get your number…” I was quiet for a minute as I stared into his brown eyes thinking about what I will say next.

“I mean I don’t give out my number to people but maybe you could give me yours.” Oh god, what am I doing?

“I will gladly do that.” He said and I gave him my phone and watched as he typed in his number. Right, when he was finishing a message popped up on the screen.

Marcus<3: I’m coming to get you so you don’t get too drunk. I’ll be there in 30 minutes

“Whose Marcus?” Luke asked curiously.

“Well he’s like a brother, but not quite. He’s my best friend. We grew up together from birth because our mothers both were living alone but together. My mom got pregnant after a one night stand and his mother got pregnant with her boyfriend, who left her after she told him. The both of them moved in together and that was how it went I guess.” I explained to him.

“That’s a cute story,” he commented and handed me my phone.

“Thank you, Luke.” I muttered with a smile on my face as I finished my Whiskey.

Chapter 2

Althea’s pov

Once we pulled up by my penthouse I turned to Marcus. I looked into the eyes that look at me with love and care. I stared into them deeply and finally, I opened my mouth to speak.

“Thank you, Marcus.”

“For what?”

“For being here for me, for helping me, for getting me this job and working with me, for understanding me, for loving me, and for just being around,” I muttered without breaking eye contact. My eyes started to sting a bit and I felt a tear slowly forming in my inner corner. I started blinking quickly to make it go away and my plan succeeded. My friend looked at me with his lips formed into a smile.

“I love you Alth.”

“I love you too Marci.” When we were 8 years old we started calling each other different nicknames and these were some of the few that we came up with. When I looked at him I could still see the little 8-year-old boy that was just saying goodnight to me so that we can see each other again in the morning when we wake up. “You know, when I look into your eyes I feel like we are still kids.” I laughed and at that moment a warm tear fell out of my eye and slowly ran down my cheek. I feel like a proud mother of her kid that he’s happy and all grown up. Although he is 3 months and 3 days older than me. We still grew up together like a family. Like siblings.

The boy looked at me and gently smiled and leaned in to hug me.

“Shit.” he hissed. I looked down, noticing he hit himself on the steering wheel.

“I swear you’re such a baby sometimes,” I admitted, hugging him back. After a minute I added. “I have to go.”

“Oh come on? Why?” he paused for a second. “We were having such a cute moment.”

“That’s exactly why I have to go,” I explained. “Before I get all sad.”

“Alright,” he said with an annoyed tone in his voice.

“Don’t be mad!” I told him

“I am not.”

“Yea...Right.” I muttered.

“Anyways, do you want to go out tomorrow?” He asked with a tint of excitement in his voice.

“Sure…” I replied a bit confused. Suddenly I let out a big yawn. “Can I have my gun back?” I asked.

“I don’t know. Can you?” his lips slowly formed into a grin. I rolled my eyes without hesitation. I opened the car door, stepped out of the vehicle, and started heading home without turning around. If not today I’ll get it back another time. I heard him rolling down a window, next thing I know he yells  “Awh now who’s mad?” I swear I hate him sometimes. I ignored that comment and went straight home.

Finally, I went through the door of my penthouse. I jumped on the couch and threw my shoes across the living room, into the hallway. I got out the gun I had in my back pocket, covered it with my shirt, and put it on the coffee table next to the couch. A loud sigh left my mouth as I brushed through my hair with my fingers. I stood up to turn on the light and get something to eat but as I was walking to the switch I tripped over. Within seconds I got up and went to the switch so I could see what I tripped over. I looked around the room, on the white wall next to me I saw a lined piece of paper stuck there with tape. I could feel my breathing getting harder and my heart beating faster. I got closer to it and I examined it. I got out my phone and called Marcus on facetime. He didn’t pick up the first time so I rang again.

“What’s up?” He said. He looked at the phone and noticed my facial expression “Althea what happened?” he asked in a more serious tone as he stopped doing whatever he was doing a second ago.

“I-” is all I let out at the moment but I took a deep breath and tried again. “Well I got home and I threw myself on the couch. Finally, I decided to get up and turn on the light and get some stuff done. Well, I just turned the light on and found this.” I stuttered as I barely turned the camera around with my shaky hands.

“What is that?” He muttered as he got closer to his phone, maybe see better.

“A note,” I answered and I took it off the wall and opened the folded in half piece of paper. “I meant it when I said watch out princess.” I read out to the guy on the phone.

“Fuck.” Whispered Marcus. “Is that all?” I checked the note and there was nothing else so I just nodded.  I looked up from the phone and the paper and noticed a small teddy bear on the wooden floor.

“Shit. Maybe it’s not all…” I sighed. The boy frowned and I said. “Well when I was going to switch on the light I tripped on something and that thing was some kind of teddy bear.” He widened his eyes while I cautiously went over to the toy. I picked up a brown teddy bear that was the size of a small bottle of water. In its paw was another note. “I thought you might like it,” I read again. My heart was pounding faster than ever. How did he even get in? I am so confused. I have so many questions but my main one is how and why?

“That’s it?”He asked but I was zoned out thinking about how this happened so I didn’t answer. “Althea?” He asked again. I shook my head and my whole body was covered in goosebumps.

“Yea?” I said as I turned my head towards the screen so that I could face my friend. Straight away I noticed he was cooking some food. His phone was placed in a way so that I could see everything he was doing. He just took some brazil leaves and threw them into the pan that he was using. On the marble counter, I noticed some tomatoes, potatoes, and more. In the background on the white wall was a red stain. “Is that blood on the wall behind you?”

“What? No. That's a stain from the tomato sauce.”

“Oh ok, anyways what did you want?”

“I was asking if that’s it.”

“Oh, yea. That’s it.”

“Well check the whole place, lock the doors, close the windows and be careful,” he commanded.

“Yea I will. I’m gonna go now, I need to shower and so on.”

“Okay,” he muttered as he added some chilly pepper into the food.

“Bye, love you.”

“Love you too. Be careful.” Reminded me of Marcus. I shook my head and hung up. I threw the iPhone on the couch and took my gun. The next thing I know I was checking the penthouse for any intruders or clues, hell maybe, even more, presents that could've been left like the others.

Nothing. All he left were the two notes and the teddy bear, which I placed into a box and put deep in my closet. Finally, I went into my room. It has white furniture, a king-sized bed, and grey walls with a huge sliding door leading onto a balcony. I went to my closet and got out some underwear along with pajamas. I walked into the bathroom. The clothes I just had in my hand were now laying on my grey counter as I was looking at myself in the mirror. “Damn,” I whispered to myself as I noticed some random bruises on my legs. I ignored them and went onto looking at my body. The one thing I knew is I was hot. No one can tell me overwise. Yes, I have insecurities too but I was working on them. My biggest insecurity which I couldn't fix was a giant scar on my thigh. I let out a sigh as I looked at it but quickly I reminded myself of a quote a queen has once said. ‘Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you’re stronger than whatever tried to hurt you.’ - Harley Quinn. I took one last look before I got into the shower.

I feel as the warm water slowly falls on my body. I close my eyes and start slowly moving my hands down my body. “Alexa play ~ Toxic by Britney spears~.” Confidence took over my body as I slowly started moving along with the beat. I like to feel like I’m the hottest girl on planet earth. It gives me confidence and helps me not overthink. In my opinion, everyone needs to boost their confidence once in a while.

After I was done with the shower I dried my body and got dressed up. I did my night routine and put some pimple cream on my friend on my chin and another friend on my forehead. After that, I put my hair up with some hair rollers so that in the morning my brown hair could quickly have the perfect curtain bangs look. Once I was done with that I cleaned up the bathroom and went into my room. I turned on the led lights Marcus made me get. Honestly, I thank him to this day. I love them. I turned them purple and turned on Netflix. I put on ‘the office’ and watched a few episodes while texting Marcus about the guy I met today.

From Marcus <3: Text him! Maybe you will finally find someone.

To Marcus <3: What if he gave me someone else's number?

From Marcus <3: There’s one way to find out. Go text him now. I’m going to go play cod, we’ll talk about this later. If you want to play to call me.

To Marcus <3: Fine. I’ll go text him. I’m not gonna lay today though. I am a bit tired.

From Marcus <3: Alright. If you need anything I’m here. See ya.

To Marcus <3: Same for you. By the way, we are 26 years old and I swear, we act as if we were teenagers!

From Marcus <3: True but it’s fun.

To Marcus <3: Well I can’t disagree.

From Marcus <3: I know now go text him.

To Marcus <3: Fine.

That was the last message I sent him for now. I let out a deep sigh as I went into my contacts list. ‘Luke Pierce’ was written. For a minute I was hesitating whether or not I should just block him. “Althea come on. Text him. It’s embarrassing that the last time you were in a so-called relationship was ten years ago!” I said to myself.

To Luke: Hi Luke it’s Althea.

Delivered. I put the phone on my bedside table and took the duck plushie that my mom got me when I was little. I covered myself with a blanket and laid there with him watching one of my all-time favorite shows. An hour passed and I got a notification. I turned around to get my phone and I turned it on.

From Luke: Hi! I thought you wouldn’t text me. How are you?

To Luke: I’m great. How about you?

From Luke: Me too. I just got home and I’m making some food.

To Luke: What are you making?

From luke: Pizza!!!

To Luke: O god I haven’t had pizza in so long.

From Luke: I don’t know how you can live without pizza.

To Luke: Honestly me too.

To Luke: I need to tell you something…

From Luke: What’s up?

To Luke: I prefer lasagne.

From Luke: Really?

To Luke: Yup.

We talked for a while until I was tired enough to go to sleep. I made sure my alarm clock for work was on and I put my phone on the bedside table. I turned off the TV and fell asleep cuddling Mr. Duck.

***

“Shit, why is he driving so slow?!” I screamed in my car. I was running late to an important meeting since my favorite coffee shop was pretty busy today but I can’t live without my daily black coffee. I looked around my car to find my phone. Finally, I noticed it on the passenger seat. I grabbed it and said “Siri call Marcus!” He quickly answers and right away asks me.

“Where are you?”

“Keep them busy. I’ll be there in 10 minutes.”

“I’ll try. We need to give them the report on Marissa Johnson.”

“I know, I know.”

“Hurry up!”

“I will. Bye”

“Bye,” He said and hung up. I threw it back on the passenger seat as I turned a corner leaving that road snail. I started driving faster and faster until I hit the road limit. Within 7 minutes I was at the office. I took my phone and my coffee and I ran inside and went straight to the meeting. When I was walking in I nearly tripped in my black heels. I was wearing blue jeans and a black bralette with a black jacket on top. The red lips and the slack sunglasses I had on only made the look better along with my jewelry that I wear every day. I looked at everyone and with a light smile on my face I apologized “Sorry for being late.” I went to the front where Marcus was standing. I looked at the round table in front of us and I noticed my boss, his assistant, my assistant, and the four people that gave us the tasks. Besides, I noticed two fellow workers. One of them was Lila Jackson - She was always jealous of my position and successes. The other one was Neville Berry - one of a kind, his wife and daughter are beautiful. He helped me and Marcus a lot when we were still new to the job.

“Well, could you tell us how the case of Marissa Johnson went?” Mr. Weller asked. He is one of the four people who assign cases.

“How long did it take you to assassinate her?” Mrs. Falon asked. She was another one of the four people.

“How did you kill her?” Asked Mrs. Zella who also belonged to the four.

“Where is her body?” Mr. Buster asked. He is the oldest one in the whole company. His grandfather made this place that I now call my job and my other home.

“Well like all the other bodies hers is in our graveyard in California.” Started Marcus.

“Yes, and we put some polonium-210 in her drink while she was at a bar,” I explained.

“We knew she went to drink into the bar so Althea went in and she bumped into her while I walked past and slipped it into her drink unnoticeably. Within 10 minutes she was going home since she was drunk. We followed her and luckily she lived alone with no close family. Once she died we called for our team and took it from there.” Added Marcus.

“Ah alright. Miss Francis, how is it going with your mission on killing Quillion Ashford?” Questioned Mrs. Zella.

“Oh, I remember how you came to us begging to allow you to assassinate him at your own terms. I was so proud.” Proudly reminded Mr. Bruster. He acts like he’s my grandfather sometimes which is so cute.

“Well, that bastard keeps getting away. Yesterday I and Mr. Boone were going to get some ice cream but I noticed Quillion driving by and I thought it’s a great opportunity to catch him off guard but when I got to his room he was by his desk, we heard a noise from a different room and I ordered Marcus to go see what it was. As I was alone with Mr. Ashford ready to shoot him but he was first, he shot into a blank spot and ran to the window, I told him he missed but he told me that maybe that was his intention. Next thing I know he jumped out the window and when I went there to try to shoot him from above. He was gone.” After telling them the whole story I let out a deep sigh.

“Don’t worry sweetheart it happens to the best of us.” Mr. Buster comforts me. “You know you aren’t perfect and that guy is also good at these games. He runs a whole Mafia! I’m surprised he wants to fight alone with you since you are the best at these things! You are like our own black widow!” he adds. I feel honored to be compared to such a queen that is played by one of my favorite actresses.

“Thank you, Mr. Buster.” I thank him with a smile as the meeting finishes. I took my empty cup that I just had my coffee in and threw it out while I was walking out.

“I swear you’re like a daughter to him or something.” Muttered Marcus when he caught up with me.

“I know.” I laughed. “You want to go get some food? I skipped breakfast although I’m starving.”

“Sure!”

“So, what are your plans for the day?” I asked.

“Well, I need to do some research on my newest target and plan out the first so-called ‘meeting’. Then I will go shopping and lastly go home.” He explained.

“That’s fun.”

“What about you?”

“I might be going on a date…” Before I could finish Marcus Yelled,

“With that Luke guy from the bar???”

“Yes.”

“Heck never mind my plans I'm helping you get ready!!”

“You don't need to.”

“I do!”

“Alright. If you say so.” I muttered. “I'm finishing work at 1 pm. I need to get more stuff about Quill.”

“Honestly’ by now I thought you have everything about him.”

“I do...Kind of but there's some huge party next week and I need to know if he's going.”

“Alright. So see you at…?”

“My house.”

“Okay!”

***

I got home before my friend arrived to cook us some dinner. Just when I was about to start cooking I decided I wanted to order a pizza. I went ahead and called the pizza hut to make an order.

Whilst I was ordering the pizza I heard a knock on my door. I ran over to open it but first I checked who it was through the peephole. I noticed it was the person I was waiting for so I opened the door.

The moment I finished ordering the boy said. “Come on we need to get you ready!”

“You know it’s not a big deal?”

“It is!!!!”

“Alright, so for my hair I’m going to do my normal ‘curtain bangs’ look.”

“Can’t you do something different with it?”

“Why should I though?”

“It’s a date!”

“And…?”

“Ugh fine.” He muttered as he went into my closet. He walked out with a black, silk dress and an oversized leather jacket. To finish the look he had my black Dr. Martens platform shoes. Onto that, I had my favorite jewelry. I did my usual makeup which contains; a bit of skin tint and concealer on some spots. my brown eyeliner on my waterline and in my inner corner and drew it out a bit to create a ‘fox eye’ look. I added some minimal false lashes. I brushed through my brows and lightly filled them in on the ends. As for my lips, I took a brownish lip liner and overlined them. To finish them off a put on some lip gloss.

“You are ready to go!” said Marcus with a bit of proudness in his voice.

“I know.” I looked at him with a smile plastered on my face.

“Be good, call me when you will be coming home and tell me all about it.” He commanded as if he was a proud mom that was about to let her kid go on their first date.

“Okay, mom,” I said as I was heading out.

“You look really beautiful.” he complimented. He came up to me and hugged me. “Bye, bye. Have fun, but not too much fun!” Added the boy once we got into the garage.

“Bye, bye,” I muttered and walked to my white Chevrolet Camaro. It isn’t honestly my favorite but iI love it nearly as equally as my Lamborghini huracan.
