The Crystal Radio
Chapter 1
A work-in-progress, life that is.
Under the Bridge
I was homeless once
No house
no car
No dishwasher
No toilet to shit in
I was homeless once
no dresser to put clothes in
no walk-in closet to hide in
I was homeless once
always on the move
with nothing to lose
I was homeless once
And although I had no
Place to stay
No bed to sleep in
It was strange
I felt at home in my skin
I was homeless once
Now things have changed
My skin will never be the same
With clean sheets to sleep in
And a walk-in closet to hide in
I find myself searching
for my skin
to be homeless once again
That One Book
We all have that one book
The book that turns reading into exploring
Adventuring past the words and into worlds
Usually a co-creating experience with an author we have Never met
Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.
By Judy Blume
Moved me
Displaced me
And most importantly
Connected with me
This book
Inspires passion
And articulates concerns that are concealed in a cloak of Invisibility
That is consistently
Left for the young to contemplate
To the eager reader
And
At the time of consumption
This piece of fiction can present itself
As non-fiction
A Layered conversation occurs
Engagement offers its hand to
A sixth grader
A curious 11-year-old
With questions
Every single word demands attention
We all have that one book
When our curiosity transforms us into readers
Without it
We are just page-turners
