I am an observer of people. After 75 years I can read them pretty well. Starting to write a historical family novel, mostly based on facts, I was amazed how vague memories started to crystallize and expand, with the help of research and drilling down in conversations with my older siblings. Some anecdotes were blown out of the water, exposed as fantasy. Living in Australia has given an huge extra dimension to my life. I came here from The Netherlands, where I was born and bred. After knocking around the world I finally found my Australian wife in Papua New Guinea. We settled in Sydney, where our two children were born. We love them and our three grandchildren.
There is a book in all of us. Just start writing and see how it will start to consume you.
