Digitization Wishlist: What Under-Appreciated Local Resources Should We Prioritize?
Hi everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about our library's digitization efforts lately, and I'm wondering if we're focusing on the right things. We have limited resources, like everyone else, and it's hard to decide what gets scanned and archived.
My question is:
What local resources (documents, photographs, audio, etc.) do you think are most under-appreciated and deserve to be prioritized for digitization in our libraries? I'm especially interested in:
Things that are unique to our local area.
Items that are in danger of being lost or damaged.
Materials that could be really valuable for local historians or researchers but are currently hard to access.
Stuff that would engage a younger audience and bring them into the library (even virtually!).
I'm not just talking about obvious stuff like old newspapers (though those are important too!). I'm thinking more like community newsletters, forgotten maps, local business ledgers, oral history recordings... you know, the gems that tell the real story of our town/city/region.
