How ancient myths inspire today’s game designers.
Some of the coolest games I’ve played lately are based on ancient myths. The stories and characters are always so unique compared to regular action or fantasy games. Do you think more designers should dig into old legends for inspiration, or do you prefer when they make something totally new?
I’m all for game devs using myths! They’re packed with ready-made heroes, villains, and epic journeys. I read an article, https://moviden.com/how-indian-folklore-inspires-the-next-generation-of-game-developers/, that shows how Indian stories in particular are finding their way into new games. I love when I recognize a familiar legend and see how designers have given it a new twist. Ancient myths have so much to offer, and using them gives games a fresh and authentic vibe that stands out.
I never really thought about where game ideas come from, but now that you mention it, some of my favorites have roots in folklore. It’s cool when games teach you something, too.
The dino game is a fast-paced, offline endless runner where you guide a pixelated T-Rex through a desert full of cacti and flying pterodactyls. Simple controls and increasing speed make it surprisingly addictive. Whether you're bored or just looking to kill time, this retro-style game delivers nonstop fun with a nostalgic arcade feel.
