Is anyone else using rolling forecasts instead of annual budgets?
Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone else is using rolling forecasts instead of annual budgets? I've been reading about them and they sound pretty appealing, especially with how quickly things change in my industry. The idea of constantly updating the forecast seems like it would give a much more accurate picture of where we're headed than just setting a budget once a year and sticking to it, even if it's no longer realistic. But it also sounds like a lot more work. Thoughts?
It's funny you mention that! I've been exploring the same idea lately. I think a big part of it is making sure you’ve got the basics down correctly. Before we made the switch, we realized we needed to get a better handle on our financial planning. We actually worked with someone who offered interim financial management, and it clarified things quite a bit. They showed us how to set up dynamic revenue, expense, and cash flow projections. Rolling forecasts feel much more manageable now.
It's amazing how many different approaches there are to managing finances. What works for one company can be a complete disaster for another. I suppose finding the right method is just a matter of trial and error, and figuring out what aligns best with your business goals and culture.
