Even Diamond Men Weep
IF I SAID I LOVED YOU
If I said I loved you, would I be lying?
pulling words from
an overwritten romance novel.
Would you know the difference
between reality and lust filled platitudes?
If I said I loved you, would you laugh
through a fatal grin
dragging my 6 feet down?
Would you straighten that crooked smile
and wear it to visit
yet another lover?
If I said I loved you, would you believe me anyway?
Would the ball unwind forming
a longer line of insincere confessions
without a priest to judge?
If I said I loved you, would I be
walking a tight rope
across an apparent bottomless cavern.
Would you push me off?
listen to my descending screams
as I fall faster, faster, ever so faster,
and hit the bottom smashing into a million pieces.
If I said I loved you, would you run away?
never looking back,
escape from an embracing arms.
Would old dusty fears resurface
in an earthquake
leaving me as wounded as you?
If I said I loved you, would you stay?
rocking in my arms
until our heartbeats
collide and synchronize
into our own speechless rhythm.
If I said I love you, would your hope blossom
and ignite a new life?
burning full of new possibilities.
Give me a commitment ring
you unconsciously know I would have chosen.
If I said I loved you, would you say it back?
through tear soaked eyes
and offer a hand longing to touch.
Would tears fall like raindrops?
but taste sweeter,
land in a deeper part of ourselves.
If I said I loved you, would, you tell me you still believed
in your childhood fairytale endings
and sing you favorite love song,
sounding more perfect
than a contestant from Idol:
carol our own duet?
Tsnami Spirit
Dedicated to all detained or imprisoned.
Tsnami Spirit
Inside
Watching wind stretching free outside
I am looking beyond the prison bars
No barrier to this wind
Except, some of us are in metal and mental cages.
But, I am not, I have decided.
It’s only iron you know
Muscles taunt,
we could climb through it.
Except wire rips flesh;
but not the imagination-
it soars,
higher than the search lights.
Wishing we could walk through these walls.
Melt material substances with particle stares,
and walk through this wall,
as if I wasn’t really here.
Like I never existed
No life, no regime, before now.
No pain
Again a babe innocent
Outside and
Floating free
Like dust in gails.
Watch wind rises up in mini tsunamis
Now freezing rain falls in torrents and blankets
A wet season, a new season dripping possibilities
Feel its chilling blue beat against my skin
I release a clenched fist.
Knowing it’s better to be drenched, frozen and free
Than warm, fed, and caged.
Japan : A Love Poem
JAPAN: A LOVE POEM
Japan I love you
More than first lover’s fumbling kisses
More than young first time Mother
More than proud Father couching son’s footy
More than new babe looking up to parents
With an outstretched lotus palm.
I Love:
Your silent gardens,
whispering wisdoms-
Sanctuaries,
amidst the wild
perpetual quaking Tokyo.
Perfect symmetry
Nature manicured and tamed by peoples’ hands,
Yet in it
Now breathing new life-
Balanced, restrained, controlled,
Like your art of relating.
I return your respectful bows.
Feasts at your table;
sushi, sake, the unknown?, and silliness mingle
Shed weight of years past
Now lithe, light ready to float,
Through underground maze of subway,
And grunge and hip hop clubs in the city bowels
-spilling with rabid frothing punks.
Erratic razor hair
pointed rays of
a new rising sun
Screwing out music and dances
with wilder boys and girls
“kampai’our new primal scream
Spills over like endless river of sake in our glasses.
Submerged
Waking after seconds subway sleep
realising it was not a dream
Awake in mountain onsen
Purity, cleansing discovered
Warmth in a winter cold
human soup! Naked strangers.
Then , ready to go at it again
With and extended life
Reincarnated
with a new parent- Japan
a second homeland
Japan , I love you.
