Chapter 1

The young girl looked as tiny as a mouse as she approached the tall stone and iron wall that surrounds the capitol of Silavell. She strode up  to the guards standing in front of the gate as if she didn’t even realize they were there.

Even though she was only sixteen Anya was a powerful figure in the royal court of Silavell. She walked past the royal guards without questions, and they stood at attention as she martched by. Dispite the fact that she commanded these men Anya felt their fear radiating of of them. The only people in the vast military that she knew did not fear her were her second in command Dominic, and the royal elite guard she grew up around. As she headed to the beautiful palace in front of her, her dark hair, cut in a feminine version of the standard military cut, shone in the light of late summer. Around this part of the world the seasons varied  between heat waves in mid summer and well below freezing in winter. She was glad that the warm weather stayed longer this year as she strode up to the palace in front of her.

Once inside Anya headed to the throne room ahead of her, it’s heavy doors closed for today’s meeting. Before walking in Anya took a deep breath and prepared the face she always put on for visiting embassies.  The only people inside she wanted to see right now was the royal family that was as close to family as she could get. Memories from the night her parents died came in a wave as the thought of family crossed her mind, but they didn’t bother her anymore and all she could remember was her brother Nicolas dragging her outside and the overwhelming smell of smoke and then a memory a few weeks later with Tobias himself holding her hand and watching her brother practice his fighting with the squadron he was newly part of.

“ Hey Colorés” Asriel said interrupting her thoughts.

The young prince was also sixteen and him and his twin sister Marie-Anne were just two weeks older than Anya. Since they were so close on age they were quite close friends.

Inside the throne room was the king,Tobias, his wife Mariam and their three children.Casus, the oldest was 19 ,Asriel and Marie Anne were 16 . Plus a few ambassadors from other upper world countries were scattered in n small groups around the room. Anya always rather speak to ambassadors from common world countries but they would not be aloud to attend this meeting.

The world was divided in to three parts after the Great War to ensure safety for all countries. The upper world consisted of all magical kingdoms and the  most powerful human nations . The common world has most other kingdoms  such as one with a smaller army or those who wished to stay out if the upper world went to war again. The other part of the world was dubbed the untouched lands and it consisted of two countries that 120 years ago left the rest of the world and repented the idea of magic to protect its people. They reside on an island continent away from the rest of the world accessible only to royals and high ranking ambassadors. Anya herself had only set foot there once at the age of ten and only for a few hours.

The gathered counties incuded  Silavell, Tunivale, and Fallor. Two ambassadors from each country sat a long dark wood table set in the middle of the room.

“This meeting was called because members from our countries have reported several terrorist groups in or around their regions” said Tobias as a way to start the meeting.

After a few moments of the other ambassadors listing of potential members and threats the government received all eyes were on Anya again as one of the ambassadors, Kiran, if Anya could rememberer correctly, asked what should be done about those they captured. As head of the biggest military in the world and Royal executioner everyone expected her to know best on what to be done.

“ I believe that imprisonment is the first step it regain control over the problem, she explained.

After more chatting and explaining and comparing ideas Anya finally spoke again.

“ First we kill some to make sure we get our point across, she stated, make sure everyone know we’re dealing with them, as long as it’s ok with His Majesty first of course”; a quick look over at her king told Anya that she said the right thing.

Shortly after that the meeting ended and the ambassadors all left to travel home.

Anya left the palace right after the meeting to head to the barracks of the royal elite guard but was stoped by Asriel whom, before the meeting she had not seen in two months.

“Hello captain, he said jokingly, matching her pace, where were you huh ?it seem like I last saw you five years ago.”

Even though they both knew where the other was at all times they still joked around like this every time Anya came back from a mission for Asriel’s father.

“ I was wandering aimlessly in the middle of the beautiful ruins of Camsia.”

“Of course you were , you always disappear when we need you the most”the young price responded sarcastically.

They stoped abruptly as the reach the doors to the barracks. Dominic stepped out of the low wooden building and bowed his head when he saw who waited outside. Before Anya’s parents died Dominic was supposed to take control over the nation’s military but that changed after Anya arrived. Dispute this Anya and her second in command had a nice relationship.

“Hello your highness, hello Anya,” Dominic said before brushing past them to

presumably go see the potential new cadets that would be join them in fall.

“See you later hopefully, said Asriel to Anya, we would like to see you at dinner tonight. You do tend to skip dinner a lot.”

          “ Of course.”

Anya accepted that she would have no choice but to join the royal family tonight.

With a nod of his head the youngest prince turned around and went back towards the palace.

When Anya entered the room where her men slept she notice that it was empty. Not uncommon this time of the week; most soldiers went home to their family’s on Sunday in the neighbourhoods specifically for military families just outside the walls of the capitol. Entering the back room that served as her office Anya looked at the list of children that were interested in trying to become members of the royal elite guard; five. One less than last year, a good number. The royal elite guard were charged with serving the royal family personally and contains the best trained soldiers in Silavell. Training started at age seven and then they would be a inducted into the guard itself at twenty. The next section of the military , the royal guard, protected the capitol and the inner country disputes and the borders, extensively trained from age twelve and enter their ranks at twenty.  The general army accepted people from age seventeen to twenty and gave them three years of training until the fought outside of the country. Anya’s brother used to be part of the royal guard until he was discharged at twelve because of a nasty fight. Nicolas began training early at nine because of their parents death and Anya began at only two years old. She wanted to be like her brother and quickly proved her worth. Because of her potential the king trained her to more than a soldier she trained as an assassin, a ambassador, and as the royal executioner, executing the first prisoners at eight. That however, was not the reason so many feared her, it was when she took down a dictatorship at nine from the inside just week into the mission, that was the reason everyone in the common world feared her and that was when the king finally revealed how powerful Anya really was and how much power the king had, securing Silavells right to be a part of the upper world.
