Prologue

The doors to the chapel opened and there she stood. The most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Like a princess from a fairytale story. Wearing a gown fit for a queen. Pale pink floor length gown that swayed with the air. It was designed with embroidered flowers and crystals that when hit with sunlight makes her shine like a dream come true. The wedding march started the same time she walked to the altar. Her pale gold hair adorned with flowers instead of a veil. Her smile lights up the whole room. Her violet eyes glowing, showing how happy she actually is. She is everything I would ever ask for. She was everything I ever asked for. As she walked nearer to the priest, my heart started to beat erratically. It threatened to leap out of my chest. Her eyes never wavered when she approached my place. She was still showing how happy she is. Tears threatening to fall from her eyes. Happy tears. Tears for the luckiest man in the world. Tears for him. She approached the altar looking at him barely even blinking. The woman I love. The woman whom I see my forever. The only girl who knew me more than I know myself. The look in their eyes signify the beginning of a new chapter in their life. The look in their eyes signify the end of ours. With that, my heart fell from my chest and what’s left of it is a hole where a heart was supposed to be.

Chapter 1

Eight years later

Zackary Jakob Song

I woke up from the dream I have drenched in sweat. I looked at my clock, 3:29 am. Fuck! It’s been so long since I last had that dream. They say time heals all wounds. Well whoever said that is full of shit. Time only festers the wound. I should know. My sad excuse for a heart is still hurting. I looked around my room. It was bland. White walls, grey flooring, a door that leads to the closet and another door to the bathroom, and my queen size bed with black covers. I looked at the only window in the room. It was floor-to-ceiling showing the flickering of lights in the city. It was the only reason I chose this apartment. The view was exceptional. I got up from bed knowing that feigning sleep was useless.

The dream was the same. No, it was more like a flashback. She was walking down the aisle getting married to him. Clarisse Charlotte Morgan had been the epitome of beauty ever since I first saw her. We were in kindergarten when I thought I saw an angel. I was five but I knew that the way she looked was exceptionally different from other kids our age. She had pale golden hair made into pigtails and violet-colored eyes. While the rest of us looked dirty while playing in the playground she managed to look cute with all the dirt in her face.

When we were in primary school and she started wearing glasses, no one had ever called her four-eyes because she still looked attractive. She had braces during middle school but no one dared call her brace face because was still the prettiest girl in the school. High school was the time where a lot of the guys fell for her. No one can blame them though, she was one hot motherfucker. Gone were the pigtails instead she wore her hair down, her braces were removed and she started wearing more flattering clothes. She wasn’t one of the sluts. Never have been.

Her only boyfriend had been him, Nikolai Sabñielle Cordova. He had brown hair that bordered on black, bluegreen-colored eyes and the palest skin I have ever seen. They were complete opposites. While she was sunshine and rainbows, he was cloud and gloom. Nevertheless, they hit it off. Everybody thought that they were ‘the thing’. They were meant for each other. The star couple. Everybody dreamed of their babies but they broke up halfway of Senior Year. No one knew the reason except them.

That’s where I showed up. At first, I never really knew what I was doing. All I know was that, I don’t like seeing her sad. We were already friends then but after the break-up we became really close friends. Up to the point where I fell for her and her for me. We became a couple, I loved her and she loved me too. Until he came back one day and wanted her back. I guess, Clary never really got over him. I mean, I knew that he loved me I felt it every time but I guess she loved him more. She asked me to let her go. I didn’t want to. God knows how much I wanted to be selfish but one look at her eyes and I knew that what she felt for me was never the same with what she felt for him. It hurt like a bitch but I let her go. They asked me to attend their wedding and I did. That was a selfish move of them but my pride can’t seem to take the pity that I would receive from people by rejecting the wedding invitation. That was the last time I’ve ever seen them. I still hear from them every now and then but seeing them just rehashes old wounds too much.

As I looked outside the window I saw that the sun was almost up. Damn, I’ve been thinking too long. I got up from bed and got ready to shower. Hoping that today would distract me from my thoughts.

Chapter 2

Eloisabeth Denisѐ Cordova

The Scripts Hall of Fame suddenly blasted all throughout my car causing me to swerve my car to the wrong lane. I searched my phone in my bag then answered my phone to loud speaker. “Sonofabitch” I shouted to the driver who suddenly overtook me.

“Well, hello to you too dear sister” greeted a voice that brightened up my mood instantly.

“Nielle! Why are you calling? How are you? How’s the wife? How’s my nephews? Do I have a niece yet?” I asked my brother suddenly very eager.

“Whoa! Easy with the questioning, sis. It’s not like you haven’t seen us two days ago. What’s with the greeting?”

“It’s just an asshole driver suddenly overtake my car.” I said as I drove to the doctors’ parking area.

“Eloisabeth Denisѐ Cordova! Are you driving while talking on the phone? How many times have I told you not to do that! It’s dangerous!” Oops, I forgot how much he hates me driving while talking on the phone.

“Geez, I’m sorry okay? Besides I’m parking on the hospital right now. What is it that you want to talk about anyways?” I changed the subject. Hoping he would let it go.

I heard him grumbled something about pain in the ass sisters and not following rules. “Come on Nielle! I’m already parked here anyways.” I urged him on.

“I hate you. Do you plan on giving your favorite brother an early heart attack?”

“First of all, you are my only brother. Second, you’re too health conscious on ever having a heart attack. Lastly, I am a cardiologist. I specialize in hearts and I’m one of the best in the hospital.” I reasoned out.

“Whatever Smartass.” I heard a smile in his voice knowing he let it go. “Anyways, the reason I called is because I am planning a surprise party for my beautiful significant half.” He continued. I can’t help the smile that suddenly blew on my face. Clary was my brother’s true love. The two of them were so in love with each other even after five little monsters and almost nine years of marriage. Acting like lovesick honeymooners that can’t take a hint making the people around them either aww at the affection or cringe at it.

“So what do you want me to do?” I asked my brother gathering my things from the car and proceeded to the hospital.

“Well, you see…” As Nielle trailed on his plan to woo his wife again I felt a certain kind of yearning by the way he thought about his plan. I wish someone would feel that way about me too. “So, you in?”

“You’re asking me? Of course I’m in.”

“Just checking. Anyways, I gotta go. I have a meeting in a few minutes. Bye Ellie.”

“Bye Nielle” the call was immediately disconnected. When I reached our department and went directly to my office Norma, my assistant greeted me. A few minutes later gave me my daily dose of caffeine and my list of patients for the day. She was a petite brunette with a dash of freckles on her nose making her look like a teenager instead of a 25 year old professional. “Hey Norma. Send in my first patient.”

“Okay Dr. Cordova.”  Then she left to call the patient while I read over the file. The patient was sent to my office signifying the start of another day.
