'Time to get up Layla!' I hear my mum shout up the stairs.                       'Okay,' I yell back. I jump out of bed and look in the mirror, I still look tired. My long, gingernut hair falls gently down past my shoulder, and as i smile into the mirror,  my freckly reflection smiles back . I open my wardrobe and pick out a nude, short dress that my father probably wouldn't approve of if he was still here. My father died when i was 7 years old and i miss him so much. He had big plans for my 15th birthday that he had planed before i was born, my mother really wants to do them but with father gone we have hardly any money. We are broke.  I cry myself to sleep every night.  I wish I could run away every night,  and tonight,  I've decided I will. I grab my makeup box from my dresser and open it, coughing as the dust fills the air. I take out my foundation and the pad and dab it onto my forehead, chin and cheeks  gently. I pick out a nude bronzer and apply it to my face. Then a dark, deep red for my lips and a glittery bronze for my eyes. As i walk out of my bedroom door, i realize that i have forgotten my liquid eyeliner. I walk back over to my makeup and quicky put it on, doing the wings at the sides. I begin to walk down the stairs and I breath heavily. I'd bet anyone anything that she wouldn't say Happy Birthday to me. 'Happy Birthday, Layla !' My Brother,

2- Running Away

Later that night, everyone was in bed. At 10:30pm Jay came into my room with his bag and everything he needed, I'd packed earlier and all of my things were by my wardrobe. The biggest bag was filled with food and many bottles of water, that I had stolen from the fridge.

'Ready bro?' I asked. He nodded and gave a kind of lobsided grin.

'Ready as I'll ever be, I guess,'

We opened my window and I looked Down, it was a long way.

'See that drain thing going down?' Jay said obviously seeing I couldn't  find a way down. I nodded. 'Slide down it, Layla I'll come after you if you can catch me at the bottom.'

I slipped out of my window onto the ledge outside. I tied my bag around it first and it slid down gracefully but landed with a thud, I went down after it not looking back up. When I got to the bottom, I untied my bag and gestured for Jay to throw his bag to me and I would catch it, he did.  He then slid down the drain himself. The taxi should have already been there. We walked out the back gate through to the front garden and looked for the taxi, I spotted it just up the road. 'Erm..can we go to ... erm ...Premier Inn please,' I stammered as we got into the taxi.

'Which one?' The mans grumpy  voice sounded familiar. Silence.

'Err..sorry can we go to the one at home farm, please?'

 He grunted.

'What about money?' Jay asked me. I held up mum's bank card and smirked.

'I know the code.'

'Do you take card?' I asked the driver.

'No,' his grumpy voice echoed around the Taxi.

'Wait one sec can I just pop to a cash machine?' The Taxi stopped in front of one.                 'Thanks.'

I Jumped out of the Taxi.

'I'll wait here,' Jay said.

'No, Jay, you'll come with me,'

'You are an awful lot like mum.' I raised my eyebrow at him and he got out the Vehicle. Suddenly, it started to drive away.

'See what would have happened if you'd have stayed in there?' I said. 'I aren't been like mum, Jay, I swear. What I'd hate the most would be to grow up like her. I just want to keep you happy and safe, seeing as mum found that impossible. I do love you Jay and you need to grow up with a mum, so that's what I'm going to be for you, I won't be strict thought. We'll have fun.'

Jay smiled at me trying to hide the glisten in his eye.

'Come on then, we best get walking.'

‘Can’t we just get another one?’ Moaned jay.

‘No, it is only up the road lazy,’ I laughed. Jay rolled his eyes at me and I put my arm around him, together we walked into the darkness.

That night was the best nights sleep I had had in 8 years.
