Losing Ashlie

We had been on the spaceship for over a month but it felt small, and yes I know Dr. Ross tried to make this as comforting as possible but I prefer to be in danger. To run. To escape. To hide...

I stopped writing and closed the book.

"What are you doing? Are you writing a story?" Ashlie asked. "Wait, you're writing a diary entry aren't you?"

"Nope! Just jotting down my thoughts," I said.

Oscar walked into the room. I looked at him.

"Hey, you two, do you want to see something cool?" Oscar asked. I nodded. Then stood up and told them to follow me to something across the ship. We left the room and walked across the spaceship. Finally, the door was in front of us.

"In here!" I said the pair looked at me curiously. I pulled a key out of my pocket, put it in the door lock, I turned to the key left, the door clicked, I pulled the key out of the lock, placed it back in my pocket, and finally I grabbed the door handle and turned it left.

"HURRY THE HELL UP JAMES!!!" Both Oscar and Ashlie yelled in unison.

The door opened. We all walked into the dark room. I closed the door behind us. I felt around on the wall for a switch. After what felt like an eternity I finally found the light switch and flicked it. One light after the other turned on but we couldn't tell if all of the lights had turned on because we couldn't see the end of the room. We could only hear the sound of the lights turning on slowly as it started to get quieter and quieter until we couldn't hear anything. We only saw doors on every two sides of the room but the door we came through was on its own wall. I knew how many doors there were. The door we came through had the number one on it. I turned to Ashlie and Oscar. "This was a part of the house," I said.

"But it was destroyed in an explosion! And everyone was..." Ashlie stopped.

"Yes but this doesn't exist! This is the void! Each door represents a gateway to another universe!" I said.

Oscar looked at the door we came from. "One? What does that mean?" he asked.

I smiled and said, "We come from the first universe in... well... everything ever. It’s pretty amazing don’t ya think?"

“You’re telling me that… each door has another... universe behind…” Ashlie said. She was amazed so she walked to a door and opened it. She then walked through it. Surprised by her surroundings, she let go of the door and it started to shut

"WAIT!" I yelled but it was too late the door slammed shut and disappeared behind Ashlie.

Shocked Oscar and I stood there looking at Door Number 7. It was a good 3 minutes before we looked at each other. "H-how do we get her back?" Oscar quivered as he gave me a questioning glare of confusion.

"I-I don't know? Th-this has never happened before." I said.

Oscar walked towards the door, he opened it but Ashlie wasn't there because with a universe that big the door appears in different places. I knew that she was gone forever.

"Time could be faster out there, she could be dead. Oscar closed the door." I said.

"No! We have to find her!" Oscar said.

I grabbed his arm, he pushed me back and the key fell out of my pocket. He stepped out of the room. I followed him. The door started to close but I held it open.

"FINE! We'll find her but-" I paused because I felt for the key and it wasn't there. I opened the door and went into the room. I had my foot on the door holding it open and I grabbed the key. I then let go of the door as I left the room and it disappeared behind me.

"Sorry! It's just we can't leave this universe unless we have the key!" I said to Oscar.

Oscar shoved me back. Piercing me with his angry blue eyes. " Who the hell do you think you are?" He said angrily.

I nervously laughed at him and said, "I'm James... I thought you knew that."

Oscar and I then looked into each other's eyes, then he leaned forward, his eyes sparkling, and grabbed my head, slowly inching it towards his face. We started to make-out. He opened the door and we stepped out of it. Still kissing we both fell to the ground. He stopped and looked deeper into my eyes. “I’m sorry, I overreact sometimes.” he softly said.

I smiled at him and then gave him another peck on the lips. He wrapped his arms around me and started to make out with me again. It felt amazing. I was too busy making out with him to realize that the key had fallen out of my pocket again.
