Do confusing app install instructions make you trust an app less?
I've been downloading a lot more apps lately for some online courses, and honestly, some of the install processes are just ridiculous. Between weird permissions requests and outdated instructions, it's a total minefield. I was recently trying to download one app that required me to enable something called "developer mode" on my phone, which immediately set off alarm bells. I get that sometimes you need extra steps for certain apps, but at what point do you just give up and assume the app isn't worth the hassle, or worse, that it's trying to scam you somehow? Maybe I'm just paranoid.
You are definitely not alone! A confusing install process makes me suspicious, too. A clean and straightforward process just feels way more trustworthy. I actually came across this article recently that explained why app download pages matter, and it really resonated with me. https://parivahansewass.co/why-app-download-pages-matter-more-than-most-users-realize/ It argues that a clear install path makes users feel more confident, whereas a clumsy download can create doubt from the start. They mentioned that Android and iPhone users don't always get the same install route, which is also super important to know upfront. When the app explains limits clearly, I feel more secure.
