Story of evolution of pepper spray

Along with being a common household spice, pepper, can be used as a weapon for self-defense. Pepper spray in its current form is a relatively new invention, but in fact the use of pepper on the enemies to make them blind comes from ancient China, Japan and India, where cayenne pepper were used to immobilize the attacker temporarily. Since this method does not cause any permanent damage, it was regarded as an acceptable weapon for self-defense amid martial arts societies. Later on, it was used by various tribes of ancient Japan and China, particularly to keep the animals and enemies away.

Without the development of aerosol spray cans modern pepper spray  would not be possible. These ancient uses for peppers against criminal or attacker contain no effective way for the management of the pepper element in person. With aerosol spray cans, the weapon became more effective and comfortable to use.

During the 1960s and early 1970s, the first modern pepper sprays was developed. While ancient uses of pepper left the whole pepper, isolated, modern scientists added capsaicin in the peppers. During 1961, Japanese chemist Inagaki and Kosuge introduced these compounds to the world. In modern times, including the first oleoresin capsicum pepper spray cans, a powder made from capsicum peppers. This substance gives chili peppers their sharpness. And literally, they become as sharp as protecting any person from any unexpected attack.

Modern isolated pepper mace these connections then pressurized and placed in an aerosol spray can. The first successful aerosol pepper spray was produced in 1969. This first sprays were developed for the use of military and police as well as an animal repellent. It was often used by hunters and others, when the wild animals attack the car in the woods. Gradually, the weapon became very popular amongst masses and a lot of people started using it for the self defense.

In the 1980s, the U.S. Postal Service began to use pepper spray  as a deterrent to use dog attacks. The FBI officially confirmed it as a chemical agent in 1987. The FBI and the NYPD led to the use of pepper spray by law enforcement by adding to its arsenal in 1991. The use of pepper spray against people rose in the early 1990s, more police added to its standard arsenal. At that time, its use began spreading as a self-defense device that could be carried in a car, purse or pocket. Pepper spray is now marketed in a variety of small containers that can be carried for use against an attacker. Almost all law enforcement agencies carry pepper spray for use as a non-lethal weapon.

Although the first compound in pepper spray , Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) is still used in many formulas, scientists have begun development of chemicals, extracts of pepper plants, including chloroacetophenones (CN) and Orthochlorobenzalmalonitrile (CS) that are not directly derived. These new chemicals are often hotter than the OC, but most irritant using gas as a combination of two or three different chemicals, making the weapon far more powerful.
