Among the wonderful things about Fall of Oriath's launching (which brings Path of Exile up to version 3.0) is that sweeping equilibrium changes and new skills means the whole metaPOE game was thrown out. The community has produced a ton PoE goods of new builds to perform. Even though there's still some jargon to learn, Engineering Eternity solves one of the biggest problems with many guides I browse by walking through the leveling process. Instead of just showing you what the construct will look like at the endPOE match, he breaks the guide to major leveling milestones, giving you smaller, more digestible goals to work toward.

 

I went with his Scorching Ray Necromancer build, which revolves round melting enemies below a burst of fire and allowing its damage over time ability finish them off while I proceed into the next group. It's a great build that I recommend anyone use because it isn't too reliant on gear. Among the best concepts in Path of Exile is its passive tree and ability gems. Every time you level up, you unlock points which you can use to uncover nodes at the passive ability tree. Minor nodes provide slight updates to your stats, while important nodes unlock strong passive abilities that fundamentally change the way you perform.

 

This works in concert with ability gems, which slot into pieces of equipment and provide your character spells and skills to use in combat (unlike Diablo 3, they don't have any provided abilities). Items will often have multiple stone slots, and sometimes they are linked together. When I set a skill like Orb of Storms to a slot and then link it using Curse on Strike, Flammability and Vulnerability, every moment my Orb of Storms strikes an enemy it'll also use both of those curses into them. It is basically a highly robust spell-crafting system.

 

Nevertheless, it's when skill gems to buy poe currency and the passive tree overlap that things get really exciting. My Necromancer relies solely on Scorching Ray to cope damage. Naturally, I've unlocked plenty of nodes that boost fire damage, but some big nodes have these clever synergies which are really enjoyable to uncover. Take Elemental Equilibrium by way of instance, making enemies that I hit with elemental damage briefly get 25 percent resistance to all those components and -50 percent resistance to other components.
