Wings

Wereowls

A dark and light star-bursting night,

A shimmering spray of shootings,

Not a bright, seething noon,

Is what I’d backdrop to the owl just hooting,

As such a flock of starlings do touch,

Do dot the star of the show just now,

In the rough, seething noon,

I notice silent wings blocking out the sun

and the furrow in my brow,

Hoot-hoot,

                   what a salute,

to hear on this,

                          a day,

Hoot-hoot

                   a tired salute,

to beg for food,

                                             or shun away,

Difficult to say

                       for sure,

Whatever had this owl done to have to this endure?

Upon yon bright night arising something surprising appears on my perch,

A sleepy, bleary-eyed, unkempt owl,

I do my best to intake and inquire the early bird,

However I can, but how without a word?

Gently reaching out to caress just right,

to avoid flight from the hand that’s feeding,

a bird that timidly lifts its head and eats,

the seeds are not, but our eyes meet:

Dark eyes, passionate eyes,

eyes just the same,

but eclipsed by equal and opposite mirrors,

Burning and splendid eyes,

We’re just the same,

Both insomniacs silently conjoining salty rivers…

Merciful Human

A sparrow, a sparrow in despair,

can't find her eggs anywhere,

I would say I don't care,

but I took the eggs,

A sparrow, a sparrow out of water,

has only managed to find a quarter,

I feel a bit like an Easter hare,

but I drained the sea,

A sparrow, a sparrow in flight,

had her eggs just last night,

I passed them and cracked them in my hair,

My existence is a hex,

A sparrow, a sparrow I harrow,

with my entire being I narrow,

the point on the arrow there,

I shoot the sparrow to set it free,

White Tangential Noise

A tiny little eagle skating on the inside of the sky,

My shiny itsy skeeting Katy from the river Clyde by the by,

Making it rain she does, very locally so, I certainly hope so,

Like the road snail's effect on Spain, I earnestly hope so,

The tiny little eagle, skating Katy, she comes by,

For a nice cuppa the other day,

Well now she knows she may.
