Kayla couldn't grow a garden of any kind. Angie, her best friend, dared her to grow a patio garden. Kayla's patio faces due west and Houston is hotter than hell during the summer. This would be the perfect project for distraction since losing her daughter, Cella, six months earlier to a car accident. Some days were just unbearable. She couldn't sleep, enjoy anyone's company, nor laugh. 

Angie was watching Kayla disappear further into depression and despair. She hoped this project would help Kayla because she liked a great challenge. Angie also had something else to show Kayla once the patio garden was finished.
