Prologue

Darkness and heat. She remembered the feeling from the time they placed her inside the vacant room with her hand against a groved wall. She was returning to the same room today. The last time, she was there as a student; now, a graduate. It was the graduation ceremony for the students of the hunting academies around the nation. Once they leave the room, they are certified bounty hunters. The young girl walked inside, the metal door shutting out the only source of light. Strangely, the darkness soothed her. She took a breath and walked forward, her hands feeling the air for the other side of the room. The proceedures were simple. Citizens may post jobs at their local bulletin for passing hunters to take. It may be capturing a runaway slave, fighting off threats outside local boundaries, internal threats, or even odd jobs around the households. Of course, their work comes with a high fee. They can range depending on the hunter rank and the type of job it is.
