Summary of the story

I staggered towards the young man that stood in front of me my arm stretched out in front of me. I only wanted to tell him something but he raised his gun and was ready to shoot if I came any closer. This young man was smart he knew that a head shot was the only way to put me down but I gestured with my hand towards myself and tried to say something. “Uh-Oh Eh I, I” that was all I could muster at this moment but it was enough. The young man slowly and cautiously lowered his weapon. “You can understand me?” he asked and while I was still pointing to myself I nodded my head. Once I nodded his eyes went wide…

Over in the other countries there seemed to be some sort of illness that was swiftly sweeping across the globe. This illness was causing a worldwide panic. Everyone was raiding the stores attacking one another if you tried to take their food. It was crazy. Thankfully my family and I we all had gone out the other week and had brought food while it was just starting to get bad so that way we wouldn’t have to deal with all of the crazies that were out there.

We just stayed home and were waiting for this to just blow over. School had been cancelled because most of the teachers had gotten sick and not long after most of the students had gotten sick and that’s when all of the schools in the district had to be shut down and quarantined. We lived right across the street from the high school so we could just look out the window and see most of the town being locked down in the school and all of the military working to prevent a break out.

The good news is, is that if you weren’t sick then the military would discharge you, but if you were sick in any way you were escorted to another section of the school and confined there until further notice. My family and I had already been looked at and there was nothing wrong with any of us, thankfully.

As the days went on things got worse and worse each day there was more on the news and there seemed to be no end to it. The president had declared a state of emergency and this now involved everyone in the military not just the usual Coast Guard. Not too long after the president’s declaration of emergency was announced the T.V. broadcasting was shut down there was nothing on the T.V. anymore not even the state of emergency signals that you normally get. This was getting really bad.

The next day my mom heard some knocking on our back door. I followed her to the back to see if I could help if; she needed it. So my mom went to investigate and found five women standing outside. They didn’t appear sick and even if they were then they would be in quarantine and not out wandering around in the streets knocking on people’s doors. My mom at first did not let them in but opened the door just a crack and asked if they were ok and if they were hurt in any way. The five women shook their heads no and my mom let them in. “But let me warn you if you’re lying and you put my family in any danger then you’ll all be put to the streets again. You understand me?” all of the women nodded. “Good lets go let me introduce you to the rest of my family then.” I was standing behind my mother when she let the strangers into our house so I was the first to introduce myself. “My name’s Nina, nice to meet you.” I said politely and asked what their names were. The black haired lady spoke first “Well I’m Trisha, this red haired lady with the freckles her name is Amanda, the tall blond in the back is Sara the chubby brown haired women in the back is Niki, and finally” said Trisha pointing to another black haired lady “this is my daughter named Courtney.” “Well,” said my mom “I’m Tara follow me to the front you can meet the rest of my family.” said my mom and we all went to the front of the house. “The man with the curly hair is my husband Steven, the two young girls are my two youngest daughters the dirty blond one is Rose and the long dark brown is Elizabeth” “We’re all thankful that you and your family could take all of us in. We sincerely thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.” Said Trisha “well I’m glad that I could help all of you. Why are all of you here? Shouldn’t you all be at your houses with your families?” asked my mom getting a little worried. “Well Courtney and I went to the school to be looked at and apparently my husband was sick and he didn’t tell any of us. And when the military found out then they had to take him away, we don’t know where.” replied Trisha. Then Amanda told us her story “so I was going to the super market the other day and out of nowhere this crazy person came and bit my husband and what I didn’t know was that if you get bitten then you have to be separated that’s what happened to my husband. As for my kids when they were in school someone came in sick and had found their way to my preschool daughter’s class room and attacked everyone there. She came home and I rushed her to the hospital along with my 10 year old son. They were both taken in and are in treatment right now. As for me I’m doing fine for now.” I felt bad for Amanda. Her family were all sick and now until they were all better they would have to be in quarantine. But they would be out of there in no time at all. Then the next person to speak was Sara “uh I don‘t have a husband and I have no kids so there’s really nothing like that going on in my life right now in this moment in time, but my parents they were both sick and I too took them both to the emergency room and the doctors told me to go home until they could get them better, so that’s what I did and now here I am with all of you fine people.” After Sara it was Niki’s turn to tell her story she was the last person to tell us how she wound up getting here. “Well I was walking my dog just yesterday when he got loose and so I ran after him and I couldn’t find him anywhere so I went home thinking that he had somehow gotten back home and my house was broken into and my boyfriend was nowhere to be found so I called the police and there was no answer the phones were too busy to be bothered with me. And so I patiently waited for either one of them to come home and no one did. So this afternoon I went out on another walk and I found my dog but he was being. You should have the two younger kids go upstairs so they don’t have to hear what I saw it’s too gory for their young minds.” My mom nodded and gestured to the stairs. They both groaned but obeyed her order. “As you were saying” my mother said and Niki continued on with her story “well I found my dog all right he was being eaten by someone some stranger that I didn’t recognize. I called out to him to get away from Spot and when the stranger turned around it was my boyfriend Joe. I was so scared I turned and ran back towards the house. I locked myself in and I didn’t come out until I saw him chase someone else. He ran out of site and I hope I don’t see him any time soon. I don’t think that I could have listened to him pound on that door anymore.” Niki was in tears by the time she had finished the story and we all comforted her. Soon after it was time for my mom to start cooking dinner I always help her out and this was no different. We were all seated at the kitchen table once we finished we put a movie in the T.V. and watched. Once it was over we all got out some extra blankets and pillows for our new guests and we all went to bed.
