Do All Graduate Students Do A Thesis?

Do all graduate students do a thesis? Majority of students ask themselves this puzzling question and never seem to figure it out. Regardless of what you hear, the answer is, what you choose to study will determine whether you do your thesis or not.

However, there are certain schools that give students an option of deciding whether to write a thesis or not. If you choose to write a thesis, the school offers additional classes to help you understand how to write a thesis. Once you clearly understand what a thesis is and its alternatives, you will make a good decision.

Definition of A Thesis

What is a college thesis? During their last year in school, students are required to write a thesis. A thesis is not similar to other normal assignments. It is quite complex. The student is required to choose a topic based on what he or she has studied in class and do some research.

The information obtained after doing the research will be the foundation of your graduate thesis. The entire tone of your thesis will be determined by the topic you choose and your attitude towards it. Generally, the topic should relate to you. You should personally love it.

Avoid choosing topics that you do not love just because they are easy to research. If you work on something you don’t love, you’ll end up frustrated. If you have no idea which topic you should research on, seek help. Professors have written tones of theses. They can write any thesis. Your professor is there to assist you in every way he or she can. Do not be afraid to ask him or her any question.

Since you’ll spend a lot of time doing your research and taking notes, it is best if you work with a study buddy. Even if you are working on different topics, the structure of the thesis is the same. Research shows that people who work together are likely to produce high quality work in a short period of time. Plus, you’ll also have someone to talk to when taking breaks.

For those who hate writing theses, there are other alternatives. They include:

Working Experience

There are some graduate schools which require students to go to the field if they choose not to write a thesis. If you love the idea, keep in mind that you might be required to complete an average of three hundred hours of supervised work to successfully complete your course.

This means that you’ll take a minimum of three years to complete your studies. Note that students who decide to write a thesis complete their studies in two years or less. You’ll also have to complete detailed logs and submit them to your school department to successfully complete your studies.

Creating Projects

If you decide not to write a thesis, you can create your own project based on what you’ve been studying in class. This option is best for students who hate classwork and love hands on experience. For example, if you are studying computer science, you can create a computer software instead of researching the technology field.

Conclusion

Before making a quick decision, you need to understand all these alternatives properly. You do not want to choose an alternative that will waste your precious time or one that will end up frustrating you. Keep in mind that every choice has a price. What are you willing to pay?
