Chapter 1

She woke up crying as tears trickled down, sobbing and tired from a night of pain she couldn't erase.  It was etched in her soul forever to come, with new memories now evading her heart with a pain she couldn't explain or understand why.  Why did it happen, she wanted to know but knew in her heart she never would have an honest answer.  It was over before she knew what had happened, yet kept replaying over and over in the back of her mind, like a broken record she couldn't turn off.

Rain was tapping hard on the window, the sun no where to be found.  "It's not OK" she said to herself, soft in the dark without a shadow in sight.  "It's not OK" she repeated, softer this time as though her voice went trailing off, and no one there to comfort her loss.  Her hair was all tangled and her nightgown was torn, barely there to cover her soul so broken and bruised as though it was never there before.  Yet as every tear fell, she laid in silence num and confused.

Her alarm went off next to the bed, loud and painful to hear all at once.  Her body lay still as she stared out the window with nothing to say as she stay curled up, blinking once as though the alarm wasn't even there, just a noise, just a distraction from the bad memories that plagued her mind, body, and soul.  Yet somehow she still had a heart of gold, deep inside waiting to exhale.

She slowly reached out to turn off the sound, when a knock at the door made her eyes move but her body lay still in her unclean bed.  She stayed curled up with nothing to say as another three taps rapped on the door. Without a sound, another tear fell, not wanting to speak or even breathe.  Death felt like heaven waiting to mend the mess in her mind that she felt took her life to never return.

"Mindy" a voice said, soft but clear on the other side of her bedroom door.  "Mindy, are you OK?" the voice said as she opened the door to find Mindy there, lying in bed in what looked like a mess.  Sarah could tell something was wrong as Mindy looked worn and frail just at a glance.  Her sister came closer and asked what was wrong.  What had happened to the sister she knew, always smiling and cheerful to just be free with a gentle soul that no one could break.  Her face looked fragile and somewhat bruised on the side of her cheek just on the right.

"Oh my god Mindy, what did he do?  How did this happen?" Sarah asked as she sat down beside her on the edge of the bed, running her hand just under Mindy's chin. Mindy looked up at the window, but couldn't quite look at her sister's face.  The pain was too much to bear in her heart, embarrassed to look at even herself in the bedroom mirror with a crack on the edge.  She wanted to speak, but just couldn't fathom the words to explain what had went wrong so late in the night.  At the blink of an eye, her life had been torn to shreds, left inhumane without any grace or dignity to salvage.

"I can't" Mind said just under her breath, as though she was there by herself.

"You can't what" Sarah asked as she brushed Mindy's hair out of her face, and moved in closer to be by her side.  She then saw the bruise and covered her mouth as her heart then sank even further still.

Before Mindy spoke, Sarah started to cry as she knew deep down what had went wrong.  "You need to go to the hospital" Sarah said very softly but firm to the touch.  "Who did this to you?" she asked once again.

Still staring out the bedroom window, Mindy said nothing, then took a deep breath as she wiped the tear falling down her face.  "I think it was him" Mindy said softly.

"Who?" Sarah asked, worried and scared.  She never had seen her sister this worn, so broken down to the soul.  She new it was bad from the stains on her gown and the bedsheets were dirty like mud was dragged in.  Who ever it was, they were careless and cruel down to the core.

"David" she said in barely a whisper as she then brought her knees up to her chest, hugging tightly as to never let go.

"David?" she asked, to reassure that she heard her right.

Mindy just nodded with nothing to say.  Her face said it all in a time of despair.

"David was here?" Sarah asked again in surprise, brushing her fingers through Mindy's long dark hair so tangled and frail.

"He had a mask on" Mindy slowly let out as another tear started to fall.  She felt like a ghost, cold and alone in such a pain that no one would ever truly understand. He left her with nothing but bad memories erasing the past of better days, when her heart used to sing and her soul was once happy like a beautiful rainbow with the sun in her hair, bringing out the sparkle in her eyes.  Her smile was gone and replaced with fear, the future unknown from a monster of evil.

"Lets go" Sarah whispered as she started to cry.  "You need to be checked and start to recover.  It may take a while, but I'll be right here, whenever you need me."

Mindy was scared and barely moved.  She barely spoke and felt empty inside as though he took her life away, killing her soul til nothing was left.  The man in the mask was out for revenge, but she didn't know why or even how he was heartless at all.  How could someone you thought you loved hurt you in every evil way possible?

“I can’t” Mindy said, still curled up like a broken child.  “He’ll come back for more.  He’ll kill me.”  She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, trying to breathe without any fear, but her chest was tight  as the memories kept coming back for more.

“Mindy, you really should try.  Don’t let him win” Sarah said in a somber voice.

Mindy slowly looked up in Sarah’s direction with tears streaming down both sides of her face.  “He already did”
