Chapter 1

Change Your Router’s Defaults

This is a shockingly common mistake that many people make when setting up their WiFi network. Not only will changing your router’s defaults make things easier on you (passwords are easier to remember) but it will also make it significantly harder for a hacker to exploit your network using knowledge of the router’s defaults. It’s a win-win!

Use Encryption

Encryption ensures that you will have access to your wireless connection.  There are many different types of wireless encryption which all have their own roles.  Presently, WPA-PSK tends to be the method of encryption.  Encryption will be covered by us further.

Change Your SSID

Your SSID is a word to your domain.  Most default SSIDs arrive set to the title of the router's newest (e.g. Linksys).  Altering your SSID will customize your router and protect from exploits.

Hide Your SSID

If security is a major concern, you can choose not to broadcast your SSID.  In order to connect In this manner, people will have to know your SSID that is specified.  When linking, while this is a superb way to keep unwanted users it can cause problems.

Limit Your Signal Range

Many of these tasks are quite straightforward and require just a modicum of IT knowledge, however they can still greatly beef up your system safety. Luna smoke detectors will communicate with you on what to do.  However, if you've any questions, please feel free to speak to the experts and CampbellNet Solutions !

If you bought your router solely then there's no reason to broadcast it all the way down the street.  Most routers will let you restrict the signal range this can cut down on undesirable users and acts as yet another barrier to individuals exploiting your WiFi.
