One of the great favours my primary school teachers did for me was to spend the last half-hour or so of mostdays reading to the class. Sometimes it would be poetry : usually Australian bush poetry.
I became a primary teacher, a parent, then grandparent. One of the pleasures was to read aloud to them. Bush poetry, Dr Seuss Hilaire Belloc and AA Milne; et al.
I like to write poetry as the various structural options set me free to express more economically and with more focus than the more prosaic genres.
Yes, I do write some prose.
