Chapter 1

"Wake up!" Coby yelled and bounced up and down on the bed, you wouldn't have thought he was a twenty-eight year old man. He acted more like a child. I ignored his childishness and pulled the duvet over my head. "Chris come on!" He tried to drag the duvet off the bed but my strength was no match for him and he fell into the mirror shattering it.

"Seven years bad luck," I said sitting up and looking at him. Blood filled my nostrils he ran to the bathroom to wash the blood away, I leapt up and followed him. "How bad is it?" He showed me his hand, it was only a shallow cut. I gently lifted his hand to my mouth and I licked the excess blood till it stopped bleeding, he was a little squeamish and I often had to deal with all his little accidents, especially if it included blood.

"So what do we have planned tonight?" He asked leaning his back against the sink, his lean arms crossed over his chest.

"I was wondering if you wanted to see a movie?" I asked, his smile dropped. "What?"

"I'd rather not go back to work, considering I've been there most of the day," he walked towards me and placed his hands in the back pockets of my jeans pulling me toward him.

"Okay. How about that sweet little restaurant near the sea?"  I asked, his cheeky smile reappeared.

"You can't eat human food," he reminded me.

"So? We'll do what we usually do, you eat my food for me and we switch plates once yours is empty," I replied and pecked his lips.

"Okay The Seafarers it is, get ready," he said and pushed me toward the shower.

"Yes sir," I smiled undressing and walking into the shower. The water was very warm and refreshing. I walked into the bedroom with my owl towel wrapped around my waist, Coby was sat down and used my mirror that he had enchanted for me to brush his black shoulder-length curls. "You're worse than me." He jumped where he sat.

"I swear I'm going to buy you a collar with a bell on it," he said swivelling around to face me.

"I told you, just because I can shift into a black cat, doesn't mean I am one," I said.

"I know," he said, pecked me on the cheek and walked down the stairs. "Half an hour!" He called as he walked down the stairs. I huffed a laugh and got ready pulling on my black lace dress and heels. I wore my usual makeup with a bit of added glitter and my long lilac hair I wore loose no need for heat with the natural beach waves I was born with. I grabbed my pumpkin handbag and made my way down. I caught Coby looking at himself in the mirror. I paused and coughed on the steps.

"What?" He asked.

"Nothing," I replied.

"Ready?" He asked picking up his car keys out of the bowl, I nodded. We made our way to the car and with one turn of the key, we were on our way. He had tinted windows that protected me from the sun if we were to travel in the day but we had no reason to yet. "Why here tonight? Is it because of the full moon?"

"No, it's because I met you here when things were falling apart for you," I reminded him placing my hand on his knee. He smiled but kept his eyes on the road.

"I didn't realise vampires were sentimental," he said.

"We're not usually," I replied. It wasn't long till we parked up and we were walking down the decked path to the restaurant. We were taken to our usual table which was right next to the sea, the sound of the waves always was relaxing and calming for us. We started with a glass of wine, only I poured the blood from my flask into the wine glass hoping no one noticed.

"Is that the last of the stuff in the fridge?" He asked.

"No," I replied taking a sip and placed the glass down onto the table, "I have three more." Our fingers intertwined across the table and the rays of the moon bathed us in her light. Our food came quickly. I played with it making it look like I was eating but as soon as Coby finished his we swapped plates.

"Do you miss human food?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Not really, after four hundred years you forget what it tasted like," I said and took another sip of blood, it was pure, virginal and the rarest blood type around. After we finished our meal we took a stroll along the beach, I carried my heels in one hand while the other was wrapped tightly around Coby's. We sat near the edge of the water and let the water wash around our feet, I rested my head on his shoulder and smiled.

"Are you..." I cut him off.

"Stop asking me if I'm cold, I'm dead," I chuckled and pecked his cheek.

"I'm sorry, it's a habit," he said and pulled me down onto the sand. He kissed me deeply, I nipped his lips making them bleed. It didn't bother him as he kept kissing me, I snaked my fingers into his hair and licked the blood from his bottom lip. He sighed and tried to pull the sleeve of my dress over my shoulder.

"Not on the beach," I said pushing him gently off me, he pined like a hurt puppy and collapsed next to me. Together we watched the stars together till dawn made itself present.

Chapter 2

Six am came around and Coby's alarm clock rang loudly waking me up, I leant over a snoring Coby and tapped it with my hand, silencing it. He stirred for only a second. "Go back to sleep," I said kissed his cheek.

"But I have to go to work," he yawned.

"It's a weekend, you spend weekends with me," I reminded his sleepy brain. He turned over and wrapped his arm around me. With my heightened senses, it was nice to feel his warm body pressed up against mine, I felt alive even if it was temporary. A few hours later and I was up before him, I sang to myself in the shower avoiding the spikes of sunlight that dared to worm their way through the gaps of the closed blinds.

I walked downstairs in my silk black robe humming to myself. I was about to walk into the kitchen but it was infested with sunlight and I couldn't reach the fridge. "Coby! I have a problem!" I yelled, a few thumps later and a panting Coby joined me downstairs. He followed my gaze to the sunlit kitchen.

"I thought it was serious," he chuckled.

"It is serious, I can't reach my morning blood," I said.

"No need," he said taking my hand and leading me to the couch, he gave me my clawed ring and slid it onto my middle finger I felt like a raptor from the Jurassic Park films.

"Are you sure?" I asked. He didn't answer but took my middle finger and pressed the tip of the blade hard into his skin and dragged it down by his neck, I wrapped one hand around his chin and pulled his head to the side, like a leech I latched my lips onto the bleeding wound, lapping up the blood like a thirsty dog. Coby sighed, I knew he enjoyed it but I know he would never admit it to me. His heartbeat was strong and drummed in his veins. He rested a hand on the back of my head and forced it harder onto the wound, he was trying to provoke the beast.

I let go for a few seconds, Coby whined, "why did you stop?"

"Even vampires can make themselves sick on blood, " I reminded him. After gulping down a few more mouthfuls of his blood, I licked the wound healing it over. "That's another scar added." I placed my head in his lap, he brushed his fingers through my hair.

"One I don't regret," he said leaning down to peck my lips, he licked the excess blood from my lips.

"Just don't rush up too fast if you stand up," I said and tapped his knee with my hand.

"I'm quite content here," he said smiling down at me and turned the tv on and we caught up on the news. It was the same old depressing topics. "Why don't they have a vampire channel?"

"Because we're not supposed to exist," I said.

"The Twilight movies show us sparkling in the sun, believe me, I don't sparkle I burn," I replied looking up at him as he chuckled.

"I know, I've had to save you from the sun a few times," I interrupted him.

"And yeah, I've had to save you from spiders," I said giggling at him.

"Hey! You promised we weren't going to talk about that," he pouted.

Chapter 3

As soon as the sun disappeared I flitted upstairs, hauled on my jacket, grabbed my handbag and like a dog desperate for a walk I had to wait for Coby to get ready. "Come on!" I yelled, my gaze caught the mirror in the hall, it was empty almost as if though I didn't exist in the mirror world.

"I am coming," he chuckled as he walked down the stairs.

"Faster!" I demanded, he kissed me on the cheek.

"Have you got everything? Keys? Phone?" he quizzed me.

"Of course," I said and rifled through my bag, he opened the door.

"Wait!" I exclaimed.

"What?" he asked.

"Nothing, I've got everything," I said and stepped out into the frigid night air. I watched Coby's breath fog as he breathed.

"What?" he inquired as he caught me staring.

"Never mind," I said as he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his side and kissed my head. We walked past a building that used to be an old factory but it had been turned into a club. The wreak of vampires swamped the place, I gripped Coby's arm as his life depended on it. A group of four vampires lurked by the entrance, one with slicked back blonde hair and a 90s look about him propped the door open with his motorcycle boots, letting out the loud booming music from inside.

I crossed over the road, one whiff of human blood and a frenzy could ensue. As we turned Coby pulled me to a stop, he rested a hand on my cheek and made me look at him, "Crystal, what is it?" I quickly poked my head back around and the group had gone inside the building.

"You remember that cross I had made for you?" I asked.

"Yes? Sweetheart, you're scaring me," he said and made me look at him again, "you're not going to lose control again are you?" I shook my head.

"No, but that club we just passed is fang central," I replied.

"I thought you said that vampires won't attack another's mate?" he asked panicking.

"If you're a vampire no, human yes," I said.

"Ar," he said slightly scared.

"Night in instead?" I suggested.

"No, let's continue our journey to the cemetery you need dinner," he answered.

"Okay, just stay close," I told him.

"With pleasure," he said. We walked to the cemetery creaking the old iron gates open. We walked our usual path and sat on top of the oldest grave in the cemetery. I laid my head on Coby's lap. "Comfy?" he brushed a strand of hair from my eyes. "Can you hear anyone else?"

"No," I shook my head, "may have to be rats again." A few moments later and the patrolman of the cemetery emerged. I flitted off the grave and was behind him in seconds, I pounced on my prey and dug my fangs deep. My eyes locked with Coby's, he always watched me feed. I was sure he got a kick out of it, after the man's heart stopped, I broke his neck, and Coby helped me to hide the body. We threw him down the stairs of a mausoleum and shut the doors behind us. "How do you still love me when you see me like that?"

"Because it's still you in there," he said wiping the blood from my lips with a tissue.
