Chapter 1

The moon was full and four figures sat together each had a bowl of water in front of them, they collected the moons ivory rays charging the crystals in the bottom of the bowls.  They all held hands and chanted quietly, the water glowed and the crystals rose from their bowls and began to spin. The moon's rays split through the spinning crystals and bathed each one of the figures in her light blessing them, however, before they could finish they were interrupted by screams coming from the town. Their eyes shot open, and the crystals dropped to the ground, the figures gathered up their belongings mounted their Shire horses and rode to the town.

They halted their horses behind a crowd of people who were witnesses to the hanging of two women and one man, "you have all been charged with Witchcraft," father Yellowstone announced to the crowd. The four figures exchanged glances amongst each other, one of the women in the crowd stole a glance at the girls too.

"We need to be careful," the eldest Winter said and leant forward in her saddle addressing the three others.

"These people are innocent, they possess no magick," the one next to her Autumn said.

"No," the girl at the end Aviv said.

"Someone's playing a game with the inhabitants here," the one in the middle Summer said. The trap door opened and the woman's body dropped, all four girls turned their shire horses around and trotted away from the sight of the hanging woman. When the feet of the corpse stopped twitching everyone left the square. They reached their small house on the edge of the water, they were greeted by their butterfly familiars and each landed in the long locks of the girls.

"I think they missed us," Winter said.

"You're right," Aviv said holding out her hand and her butterfly a peacock landed on her fingers softly.

"We need to strengthen the barrier," Summer said as they all dismounted and she took the reins of the shires.

"The black witches are not going to find us," Autumn said.

"We don't know that," Winter said and walked into the house with the two other girls following her and Summer saw to the horses. Each sat down at the table, moved their hair from behind their ears and the butterflies fed softly, delicately and gently from a hidden teat. They fed off the girls' goodness and their white power.

"Is it just me or does this tickle anyone else?" Aviv asked.

"Just you," Winter said as her butterfly finished and returned to being a hair slide. She walked out into the garden stroking the soft petals of flowers and the lush tall green grass. All four girls had fused their powers together to grow such a rich garden. In the middle sat a pentagram made out of flowers. Winter wandered to the water's edge and began to chant but was interrupted by Summer.  "All good?"

"Yes, they're resting," she said and walked into the house joining the other two. Two white wolves stood on the edge of the garden, she smiled as she saw them. They bowed before turning tail and disappearing into the forest.
