Break The Night

Break The Night
A book of poems.

Break The Night
Once Upon A New York Night
Once upon a time ago
I didn't know what I didn't know
Funny now to think back, how little's changed
Thought then I was so naive
Thinking now there's no room to breathe
Emptiness takes up more space, love ever could
Wish upon that shooting star
Fell to earth, now the magic's gone
Still I, thought for just one moment
"This'll be the one!"
Funny now to think of the day when I didn't know how I was gon' say
"Don't be so shy. It'll be alright."
Love abound, love all around, love is a mystery
I've never found a way. Put a trace on just how this thing goes.
Is it raining? Is it pouring? Hey there, Mystery Man, where's this train going?
Not too far, I hope. Or maybe, yet.
Once upon a New York night
Went to reach for you with all my might
Came up short. Or did I? You'd never say.
Took my last words to your grave
Took my answer, took my mistake, but
I'm still here and I just can't let it go.
Here today, gone tomorrow
Never knew I could feel such sorrow
Was it right, or was it all just too soon?
'Cause the moon used to call me at night
And I used to be warmed by her light
Now I'm throwing my head back, to scream, not to howl
How the sight of her feels like I'm dyin'.
Throws on the windows
Cover the room
Bathed in the darkness, now I feel it too
Warmed by the constant, yet even so...
Just a crack...smallest filter...
Light makes it through, though I turn against you.
Why do we bother with, every night, our little war?
So the dawn comes, and I'm rising.
One of these days maybe I'll call the tides in, but,
Not today. Prob'ly still not anytime soon.
Guess for once I don't know where I'm goin'.
Might'a stopped hopin', I wish it were showin', this
Path of mine to guide me, an' light my way.
