The Layover

Introduction

There are some things in the world that are universally understood, where people don't need to speak to communicate.

Many of them are obvious and almost impossible to ignore...

A teenager suddenly dyes their hair black, and starts wearing only dark colors, this says they would prefer to be left alone.

Some of them are a little more subtle...

A person pulls out their phone and puts in earbuds in a public setting tells those around you don't speak to me as well as I'm not listening to your conversation.

And a select few of them are so discrete most people don't even realize what they're doing...

A space left between two people on a buss or in a theater tells everyone that you are in no way associated with that person.

Of all the possible scenarios our story takes place at an airport between two people waiting for their flights. A girl from America, and a boy from Spain...

Lets Start With Coffee

Layovers are the worst Kat thought as she scoped out the crowded boarding area for an available seat. there were limited options...A seat between two businessmen thoroughly engrossed in their blackberries. A spot on the floor by the windows with an outlet that had a group of teenage girls huddled around it like vultures. Not an easy choice, or any choice for that matter.

"Overpriced airport coffee it is." She mumbled to herself as she walked over to get in line.

Layovers are the best Alex thought as he strolled through the boarding area watching people hustle through the airport trying to catch their flight or grab an empty seat. There was always something to do at an airport...

"Lets start with a cup of coffee."

~

You can always count on coffee being the same no matter where you go in the world. No matter where you go there is a Starbucks with a caramel machiato. Kat stood in the mile long line waiting her turn when she felt someone tap her on the shoulder, and a diffinitively masculine voice say

"Excuse me."

~

You can always count on commercial franchise coffee places to have their menus only in english. I couldn't understand a single word of it. Maybe I should ask someone for help.

"Excuse me." I said as I taped the girl in front of me and was floored by the most stunning blue eyes.

~

He was gorgeous Kat thought to herself.

"Sorry my english is not good, could you recommend something?" Of course he doesn't speak english Kat thought.

"Oh, well then you can rarely ever go wrong with a caramel machiato. Sorry english is the only language I speak."

Of course she only speaks english, Alex thought to himself.

"Bueno, gracias senorita???''

"Kat, my name is Kat." She said gesturing towards herself.

"Alex"

After that they waited in and awkward silence until they got their coffee. Kat began to walk away when Alex taped her on the shoulder and held his hand out to her in a gesture he hoped said...

Come with me?
