FOLLOWING TRENDS

Following trends

Trends and styles with interior design change regularly. If you flick through home magazines, you will see how they change. One month there are rooms painted in strong blues and deep greens, the next month it is all about muted colours and even back to the classic white.

When thinking about redecorating your house, of course looking through magazines and online platforms to get ideas is helpful. But it can sometimes also be confusing. What look should you pick and what would suit your home.

Mood boards are always a great way to start. Collect ideas for colour schemes and styles and putting them together to see if they are cohesive. Plus it can fun to try out different ideas before purchasing paint. Remember you can get free colour charts and small inexpensive testers from any homeware store, so you can try before you buy.

Most homeowners get their home repainted every few years. They spend, sometimes, a lot of money to create a new look for their home. Then a year later it is ‘out of fashion’.

Is that a waste of money or not? I guess it is how often you are willing or wanting to redecorate. Maybe you like changing it all every year. Maybe you want a look to last 5 years. We all have different needs.

Well obviously every person or family is in a different position financially and has different life styles.

At the end of the day my advice would be, look at what is out there in the magazines and pin point the parts you like and then go with that.

It is your money and it is your house. If for example, my house is all white are my friends and family really going to say I am boring? Or if the lounge is green one year when pink is the trend, is anyone actually going to care? The answer is probably not.

I would suggest, choosecolours and styles that make you smile every day, because you are the one looking at the rooms in your home every day.

Make your home a place that you can feel calm or energised. It’s up to you.Whether you follow the current trend or not, there are great ideas idea there to help you form an idea of how you would like your home decorated.

If you want to have longevity maybe just stay with muted colours and change the room’s accessories.

If you do happen to want some advice then speak to an experienced decorator like MJ Kloss Decorating. They have been in many homes in all kinds of styles and areas of the country. They will be able to steer you in the right direction if needed.

By doing this you will also be able to tell the type of customer service they provide. Are they friendly, experienced and helpful? Then that sounds like a company to choose, especially with so many painting and decorating companies out there, you want to choose the best one for you.

You can also ask friends and family about their recommendations. Word of mouth is the best promotion. No-one will recommend someone that is not expert and leaves a bad result.
