Mist Among The River

Everest ran through the dark forest, keeping her body down and hidden in the shadows as she ran speedily making sure she didn't trip on any twigs or fallen branches. Drips of rain pelted on her hood and her arms. Luckily she was a Mist Elf so she was able to see through the thick mist that ran through the valley. Everest then stopped when she saw another elf hiding behind a group of bushes. She bent down and said,

" So, Fog, do we have any leads on who took the Mistwing egg?" Fog said in a plain voice while he looked out among the tops of the leaves,

" No. But I found foot prints in some mud with cart tracks. I have a feeling the humans took it." Everest narrowed her eyes at the mist. She thought she saw something move among the trees. Everest squinted her eyes at the shadow, suddenly she saw something shine. It was silver but it had a blue tint to it. Everest suddenly heard the whistle of what was an arrow. Everest pulled Fog down and said,

" Get down!" Almost instantly Everest heard the thud of the arrow hit the tree next to her and then turned to Fog saying,

" We are being attacked by River Elves."

" How do you know, Everest?" Exclaimed Fog in a rude way. Everest narrowed her eyes thinking, If you die because of one of their arrows, I am not going to feel bad. Then she said,

" I saw something silver and blue shine." Everest knew from Fog's expression that he knew she was right but didn't want to admit it. Everest narrowed her eyes and said,

" I'll sneak around, you give her something to aim at." She started to climb up the tree making sure that she didn't slip off and expose herself. Once on the top of the tree she looked out at the ground and saw the same shining silver and blue light shining behind a tree. Everest narrowed her eyes and then continued to jump among the tops of the trees. She finally got sight of the shadowy figure hiding under a small canopy of leaves and branches. Everest then took out two handle like items that was hooked to the back of her belt that was around her waist and unlatched them by flicking them down. This turned them into curve bladed swords. The handles where black and had a single silver and purple wavy line for a design. Those colors represented the colors of a Mist elf. Everest then thought, This is our territory River elf. With that she jumped from the top of the tree and holding her two swords over her head she fell to the ground ready to strike. Suddenly the River elf turned from shooting at Fog who was zig zaging and moving around to look up at Everest and dodge out of the way just as Everest was about to slay the elf. Everest landed and stood up quickly, pulling her swords out of the wet grass and mud. She then ran with her head low and her arms behind her. She finally caught up with the River elf and threw her swords at her. The figure held up her bow, using it as a shield. Everest kicked her in the stomach making her fall and land in a puddle of mud. Everest held her swords up and was about to slay her when the girl said,

" Wait! don't kill me!" She removed her hood but Everest saw something flicker in the dim sun light. She realized that her hood was really a helmet. Everest's eyes went wide and she brought her swords down, then she flicked one back into the slit between the handle and put it on her belt. Everest had her eyes narrowed focused all on the woman. Then Everest saw it, an arm band that was silver with a wavy blue design on it. Everest pointed and tapped it. The woman who looked frightened said,

" Why do you have it?" The woman said in a stuttered voice,

" I- I stole it f-from a river elf and k-killed him, so it's my prize." Everest narrowed her eyes then changed her hand form to be a cupped hand. The woman put her other hand on it and said,

" No, it's mine!" Everest held her other sword up against her neck and said in a stern voice,

" Give me it, or you die." The woman looked at the sword for a while then narrowed her eyes. Finally, the woman started to slide the arm cuff over her hand and handed it too Everest. Everest took it and turned around saying,

" Don't say a thing about this, or I will come back for you." With that she ran back into the shadows leaving the woman muddy, wet and frightened. Everest returned to Fog who was hiding behind a group of bushes and in a small clearing. Fog took off his hood when she approached revealing short black hair and long pointed ears. He had a purple colored bang and part of it covered his eye. He wore a black outfit with boots and and it had wavy silver and purple designs. Fog also had a purple marking on his forehead. It looked like an 'S' but it had a couple of what look to be sharp points on the design. Everest removed her hood revealing her black hair with a single purple streak. But her hair was put into a braid. She had the same exact marking on her forehead and she wore pants with a tight sleeveless like shirt and it had a scarf-like accessory that was attached to her hood. Everest also had boots and on her arms where gloves that went up to her forearm and covered her fingers but each had a hole for her finger tips. Everest heard Fog ask,

" So, what was that all about?" Everest held up the arm band that belonged to the woman and said,

" I saw this, thinking that the figure was another elf but it was really a woman. She found this on a River elf boy." Fog took hold of the arm band and held it in his hands, then he said,

" May I ask... Why you didn't kill her!? She's obviously going to tell the king whether or not you threatened her." Then as he turned to the side he muttered,

"I'll do further studies back at camp." Then Fog put his hood back over his head and started running back into the forest. Everest followed him without hesitation.

                                           ******

Back at the camp Everest sat on a rock holding out one of her blades and looking at it thinking, Why didn't I just kill her. She is definitely going to tell her king. She stood up and started walking when someone asked,

" Everest, where are you going?" Everest looked back and saw her friend Turi. Everest then looked at her with a calm face saying,

" I'm just going to the river to wash my blades, they still have mud and grass on them from earlier today." Turi nodded then left to go and continue sharpening her own blades.

                                        ******

Everest walked through the forest which was now starting to dry up. Everest walked till she found the near by river that ran along the valley. She then sat down on a warm rock that was being heated by the sun and started to dip her blades into the cool water. She then set one of her blades on a near by rock besides her so that it could dry in the sun. Then she lay back on the warm dry grass thinking, I'm such a disappointment, I shouldn't even be an assassin. I shouldn't even be here... Her thoughts faded as she actually thought about running away. She looked back the way she came thinking, No one will care and I can totally fend for myself. So, Everest finished washing and drying her blades before standing up and running down the river. Everest ran down the river till she got tired. So she decided to stop and look for food. She walked around looking at the bushes. Suddenly she spotted a small patch of berries and bent down to pick them. She put a few in her hand and then dumped them into a small bag that was hanging from her belt. She continued to gather more. As she did she kept hearing things around her. So every time Everest heard something she would look up. She was about to stand up when she heard something behind her. Everest tilted her head and saw a large fuzzy black creature standing on its hind legs behind her. The creature was breathing heavily and it seemed like he was growling under his breath. Everest looked up and realized that there was a huge black bear standing behind her. The bear growled loudly and swiped at Everest. Everest ducked down and rolled out of the way. Then as she stood up she grabbed both handles of her blades and flicked them open. Everest gritted her teeth at the bear and jumped up and over the bear who had now went back down onto all fours. She looked back and narrowed her eyes then started running. Everest came to a large sturdy tree and climbed it using her swords. When she came to the top she looked down to see it the bear wasn't following her. No one was below her. Everest sighed and climbed down then continued her journey along the river. After a while she stopped to rest in a large tree that seemed as if you could live in it. Soon she felt her eyes getting heavy and quicker than she thought, she was fast asleep.

Friend or Foe

Suddenly, Everest woke up to the sound of loud voices. Everest has always been able to sleep with the noises of the forest but not with the voices of elves or humans. She sat up and shook herself awake. Then she looked down just in time to see two boys walking along the river. Everest narrowed her eyes and saw that one of them had a backpack on his back with a small purple light glowing in it. Everest got curious and decided to follow them. She stayed among the tree branches and continued to follow them until they stopped and rested against trees in a small clearing. Everest stopped and found a nice hidden spot in the branches but there was small gap where she could see both boys. One looked older and had light brown hair. He also wore a red shirt with a blue jacket. He had blue pants and brown boots. The younger boy had dirty blonde hair and wore a blue shirt and black pants with light brown boots. Everest spotted the bag and saw that it was open. She leaned farther still holding onto another branch to see inside the bag. What she saw was a large purple... Egg! Everest knew it was a dragon egg from the size but the color of it was unmistakable. It was a Mistwing egg. At that Everest jumped from the tree and landed between the boys saying,

" Why do you have that egg!?" Everest took out both her blades and held them out at each of the boys. The older boy said,

" Wow! Hold on, have you been spying on us?" Everest looked at him with narrowed eyes and said,

" Don't ask right now, just answer my questions... Why do you have that egg!?" The older boy said in a concerned voice,

" Okay, well, we found the egg hidden in a secret chamber of the castle and we decided to bring it back to the queen. We've learned a lot about dragons in an old text book that my brother found in the library, and that pretty much sums that question up, now w-" Everest cut him off by saying,

" Now, what was this egg doing in the castle, hidden?" The younger boy said in reply,

" We honestly have no idea. I stumbled across it one day when I was searching for secret tunnels and passage ways, you know there has to be some in the castle, and thats when I found the egg hidden in the chamber." Everest noticed the egg was flashing every once in a while and realized that it was dying. She flicked the blades back into the slit in the handle then put it on her belt. Everest moved her legs back together and said,

" Well if you'r trying to bring it to its mother then part of that try is to give it to me and I can bring it to its mother." Everest looked at the younger boy who now held the backpack close to his stomach. The older boy said,

" Wait, what if we come with you?" Everest turned and looked at the older boy and said,

" Are you crazy! There are going to be so many dangers and you will just be dragging me down." The older boy added,

" That's what they all say." Everest seemed to calm down then gave a plain face and frown before saying,

" Fine." Then she flicked her blades back into their handles saying,

" But if you try to throw me off and take the egg then you will die." The older boy smiled innocently and said,

" Okay." With that Everest started to lead the way. As she did she said,

" The dragon egg belongs to the Mistwing queen who lives on the Dragomia side of the world." Then the older boy said,

" Oh, um by the way... My name is Ethan and this is my younger brother Isaac... May I ask what your name is?" Everest stopped and glanced backwards at Ethan saying,

" The name's Everest." Then she continued walking and talking by saying,

" The Mistwing queen will be so glad that her egg is safe and sound. I've heard that Mistwing eggs can only hatch in the storm of mist, it's a very rare weather pattern, anyway  but she lives in the ancient castle deep in a valley of mist. It can never be seen, only by a mistwing. Luckily there are guards who could help us." Isaac then came up beside her and said,

" You sure know a lot about this Mistwing queen and her palace, have you been there before?" Everest sighed and said,

" Yes... It was my home."

" So wait... you're royalty too?" Asked Ethan. Everest turned around and looked at Ethan with a suspicious look and said,

" Do I look like a princess to you!" Ethan stammered saying,

" Uh... No, you look more like an assassin... Ooh, wait no an explorer. Are you?" Then Isaac said,

" E, stop and let Everest explain." Everest sighed before turning around and walking as she said,

" I was born in the castle because my parents lived there as part of the dragon guard. They where supposed to stay and protect the Mistwing queen and her egg but they didn't." Everest stopped and looked down at the grass. The memory of her parents where so faint that she didn't even remember their faces. She closed her eyes as they started to get foggy from small tears forming, but she quickly whipped them away, trying not to show her sadness. They walked and walked till Everest noticed that the sky was beginning to get darker. She stopped and said,

" We should find ourself some shelter for the night." She then walked a little bit more into the woods away from the view of the river. They walked a little bit more till they came to a fallen tree. The branches still had pine leaves that made it the perfect shelter for the night. Everest looked around before saying,

" We sleep here for the night, I'll keep watch." With that she climbed up and onto the fallen tree while Ethan and Isaac crawled in under the tree and leaves. Everest sat there looking around, her blades ready if anything attacked.

                                                 ******

The moon was high in the sky now and Everest was getting a little sleepy. She took a berry from her bag and popped it into her mouth. The sweet and sour taste filled her up. Suddenly she heard something and looked around, blades up protecting her face. Then she heard a crack of a twig behind her. She looked and squinted her eyes at the shadows behind some trees. She then saw something shine in a glimpse of the moonlight. Everest knew someone was there so she quietly jumped from the tree and stealthly moved up on a rock and then dived at the creature. Everest now lay on top of what Everest thought was an intruder was really Turi. Turi had her eyes closed and shielded her face from Everests posed blade.

" Everest, don't... it's me, Turi." Everest gave Turi a confused look and as she climbed off Turi she asked,

" Turi, what are you doing here?" Turi scrambled up saying,

" Everest, I came to find you after you didn't come back before dark. What are you doing here with these humans?" Everest narrowed her eyes at Turi and said,

" You were following us, weren't you." Turi smiled innocently before saying,

" Well, yes I was, but why Everest?" Everest turned away for a moment before saying,

" No one cares about me, so I decided to help these boys get the Mistwing queens egg back to her." Turi gave Everest a confused look and said,

" But, Everest, no one has seen the egg in three years. You couldn't have found it." Everest narrowed her eyes and said,

" Wait here." She turned back and dipped down under the fallen tree, looking for the backpack that held the egg. But the backpack was empty. Everest realized that the egg was between Isaac and Ethan. She quietly and slowly slide the egg out from between them and ran back to Turi. Turi's eyes went wide when she saw the egg. She reached out and took hold of it, Everest let go and said,

" We need to leave to get it to its mother."

" But thats all the way on the Dragomia side of the world! You will probably die trying." Everest raised her eye brow and said,

" Maybe them, but not me." As she said that she looked back at the fallen log then back to Turi saying,

" You better go, and please don't say anything about me going on any journey with humans."

" Well then what should I say." Asked Turi as Everest took back the egg.

" Anything, but the truth." As Everest turned back to head and watch for the rest of the night Turi said,

" Will you come back?" Everest didn't look back as she answered sternly,

" No." Then continued walking. She heard Turi brushing through the tall grass saying,

" But Everest." She turned down her voice to a much quieter whisper as she said,

" I will miss you. You know too well that I don't like losing people. I lost my parents just like you did, and I'm not about to lose you." Everest sighed and turned around after stuffing the egg back between both of the sleeping boys and said,

" Listen Turi, I've lost my parents just like you but I mess everything up as an assassin. I don't want to live a life of mess ups, I want to be free, and do what I think is right." Turi sighed and said,

" Okay Everest, just promise me that you'll visit, and when you do, bring back something from where you went." Everest nodded and held her arms out to hug her best friend. As they hugged Everest said,

" You'r my best friend Turi."

" You'r my best friend too, Everest." With that they let go of each other and Turi ran back into the shadows of the trees. But before she was out of sight Turi turned around and waved back at Everest. Everest waved back then decided to rest her eyes a little bit.

                                                  ******

The sun woke her up and saw that she had managed to sleep and stay still on the log all night. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. She then slid off the log and bent down to look and see if the boys where still sleeping. But what she saw was that the boys where gone and so was the egg. Did they leave last night with out me, no I would have heard them. Thought Everest. Suddenly she noticed an indent in the dirt. It was as if something was being dragged across it. She then looked out and saw that it continued out through the forest towards the river. Everest stood up and thought, Who ever took those boys and that egg is going to regret every last bit of their decision. Everest then ran through the forest and to the river.

                                               ******

Finally, she came to the river. She then saw up ahead a group of horses and men. Everest then thought, What are they doing? Everest quickly and quietly climbed a pine tree and jumped from one tree to the next till she was looking over the group of men. She realized that they were by the water fall and they were holding Isaac and Ethan by ropes over the edge. Everest gasped and noticed the egg was being held by a man. She realized that all the men where wearing green and black clothing. She have heard of these people, they where dragon and elf hunters who hunted down elves to steal their magic but also captured dragon eggs so that they could put them to work and use them for war. But if they have Ethan and Isaac who are humans just like them then why would they still be captured? Maybe to make sure that they wouldn't have to deal the the boys again. Suddenly she knew exactly why they were still trapped. Some nature elves have the ability to shape shift into humans, thought Everest. So Everest went down the tree and perched herself on a large sturdy branch with the cover of leaves and branches to help hide herself. Everest had to come up with a plan. She thought for a little bit as she watched to make sure that the boys weren't going to get hurt. Finally, she had an idea. Everest knew a pack of wolves lived near the river and she knew exactly where to find them.

                                                 ******

Everest felt her heart racing as she ran from the wolves she looked back in front and saw a large hold that she would surly twist an ankle if she stepped in it, so she jumped and grabbed a branch above the hole and swung across. She looked behind her and saw the wolves right there so she continued to run. As she came closer to the spot where she spotted the men she grabbed the piece of meat she stole from the wolves and tossed it in the air as she jumped up into the tree. The piece of meat landed near a mans feet and the wolves came charging at them howling and barking. Everest laughed as the wolves totally destroyed the men. A few escaped and she realized one of them was still holding the egg. She grabbed a whip from her belt and tossed one end at a branch and jumping from the branch she was standing on, she flew threw the air landing right in front of the running away men. She took out her blades and said,

" Going some where?" With that the other men who weren't carrying anything took out their small blades and ran at Everest. Everest ran at them as well and threw her blades at them. She used both blades to block them until she bent down and twisted around on one foot while her other leg was extended, and when she came around she knocked one of them down. This man who fell first also fell into the other two men. Everest stood up and looked at the pile of men smiling saying,

" They were never a challenge." Then she turned to follow the man with the egg and it didn't take her long since the egg was kind of heavy. Everest found him in a clearing and said,

" Hand over the egg!" The man said,

" You can have it after I kill you, oh wait if I kill you then you won't be able to have the egg, so... no." The man took out a sword. Everest narrowed her eyes and said,

" Well, just so you know your friends didn't put up a good fight so I don't think you should be any different." The man raised an eyebrow and said,

" Is that so... Well, I guess we will just have to find out." With that he ran at Everest. Everest ran at him as well but when she got close she jumped, did a front flip out of the reach of even his sword. As if it were slow motion, Everest looked down at the back of the mans head and took out a star shurikan from a pouch on her belt she then threw it at his head. When she landed she heard the man tumble to the ground. Everest didn't need to look back at the man to know what happened because Everest knew... he was dead. She walked over and picked up the purple egg before running back to the river. When she arrived she just heard the other men say,

" Come out where ever you are elf! If you can hear me we are going to have to throw the boys over the edge or you can give us the egg and we will let them go peacefully." Everest hung in the shadows behind a tree, before laying against it thinking. She knew she could give them the egg but she didn't want to be the cause of two more deaths. She looked around and looking at a bush near a patch of sunlight in a small clearing she got an idea.

                                                ******

She came out holding the purple rock that she had chipped with one of her small blades to make it as egg like as possible, then she used a polish that she uses to polish her swords on the rock to make it shine. Everest walked over to the men and said,

" I heard your threat and I've decided to give you the egg in return for the boys." The men took the egg while one of them who Everest thought must be the general said,

" Thats very generous of you, lift the boys up and release them." The men standing close to the edge nodded and pulled up Ethan then Isaac who's hands where tied and so where there legs. Everest gasped but quickly closed her mouth as the general said,

" I have never heard of an elf saving a humans life? You must be an extraordinary elf." Everest narrowed her eyes and she watched in the corner of her eyes at the boys where being untied and where being allowed to go and stand next to Everest. Everest then said,

" Well, I think we will be going then." Everest started to turn around and walk with Ethan and Isaac both behind her but they stopped when the general said,

" You do know that we aren't done here." Everest turned around and gave him a confused face as she said,

" What do you mean by that?" The general said,

" I mean, we always want to eliminate all types of magical creatures, including... elves... Fire!" At that Everest saw a net come right at them. She started to push the boys out of the way saying,

" Run... Run!" With that they all started running. Everest ran faster than the boys but as more nets came at them Everest ran back flicking out her blades out and she started to cut the nets as they came down. Everest then saw that both boys were almost to the forest, so she retreated after them. Ethan said,

" Now what do we do?" Everest finished slicing through a net saying,

" We leave this place, for good."

" But what about the egg?" Asked Isaac as Everest went over and bent down into a hole under some roots by a tree, she pulled out the real egg and held it up saying,

" They totally fell for it, but we better leave before they realize that the egg they have is a fake." Isaac and Ethan both nodded and followed after Everest.

Shapeshifters

They walked for many days, maybe even weeks and they didn't stop till late at night. The egg continued to light up then go back to being a dim purple color. They managed to get to a village low in a mountain valley and found a place to sleep. Everest woke up to a light blue sky shining in through their window. She sat up and stretched her back out, having sleeping on the floor all night was very uncomfortable. Everest then stood up and walked over to the door. She then opened it and before walking out into the village she looked back to see both boys cuddled up together under the blanket. Turi and I used to do that when the whether got cold. Thought Everest as she closed the door behind her. She walked along the cobblestone walk way looking at all the carts and people getting ready to sell their goods. Everest came over to a cart that was selling some kind of berries. She inspected them with her eyes and asked,

" Excuse me but what kind of berries are these?" She looked at the sleeping woman and gave her a disappointing face before taking one berry and popping it into her mouth. They were mostly sour but they did have some sweet to them. She thought they were really good so she opened her bag that had a few berries which where from the Bear bush, and filled it with the other berries. She then went on her way down the rode looking at all the houses. Everest came to a home with its lights on and looked through the bright window. She saw a couple of boys and girls playing with toys that Everest has never seen and they where smiling and laughing. Just then the parents came into the room and sat down. Two of the kids sat on their parents laps while the others sat in the middle of their parents. Everest sighed and remembered a time when she was younger. When her father would set her on his lap and tell her stories while her mother sharpened her blade. Everest loved the sound of the blade being scrapped against the sharp rock. She also loved her fathers deep voice that was soft but stern. Her favorite story that her father told her was the one about the dragon soaring above the sky, and roosting upon the mountains. Everest came out of the dream state and back down to the real world as she heard loud noises coming from the center of the village. Everest then muttered to herself as she ran to the center of the village,

" What could be going on this early in the morning?" She ran and then pushed herself through the crowd to see a man with a person who's hands were tied behind her back. She was on her knees in the cold snow. As Everest looked closer she realized that this person was really another elf, but it wasn't a mist elf, It had silvery white hair with a blue strand of hair stringing out from under the hood of her cloak. It also had a silver cuff on one of her arms with the blue stone design on it. Everest narrowed her eyes and realized it was a river elf. Everest then turned to walk away when she heard a voice in her head say,

" Don't walk away from me, I'm an elf just like you. I have been following you ever since you found that soldier, you still have my brothers cuff, I would like it back." Everest stopped walking and she raised an eyebrow as she turned to look back through the crowd at the elf. She then heard the voice again say,

" I know you want to help get the egg to its mother and I can help... you know a shape shifting elf might be helpful on your adventure." Everest thought, Should I trust her, but she's a river elf, they come into our territory with out permission and thats against the law! Suddenly Everest heard the voice again, this time saying,

" The only reason we go into your territory is to get the food that other animals leave. We use a special concoction that we put on the animal meat so we won't get sick and it gives us the nutrients we need just as if the animal is alive." Everest sighed thinking,Well I guess you can also read my thoughts. The river elf  replied through her head,

" Well, all types of elves can do it it's just rare, and apparently you can too if you and I can communicate through our thoughts than you can do it." Everests eyes went wide and she realized that she could do it. She has never heard of any elves talking to each other through their thoughts, Everest then thought, Stay their and act normal, I have a plan.

" Where else do you think I'll go?" With that Everest ran and went back to the berry cart. Before she stepped up to it she realized that the woman was still sleeping against the wall of the house behind her. Everest took a few more berries but this time as she turned to leave she purposely nudged the wheel barrow hard so that it fell on the woman. The woman woke up with a jolt and said,

" Hey! You thief get me out of this!" Everest ran, berries squishing under her boots. She glanced once behind her to see a small group of people running after her. She ran into the crowd and to the front where she saw the man next to the river elf holding a knife to her neck. Everest kicked the man as she took out her own blades and cut the ropes around the elves wrists. Everest helped the elf up and said,

" Come on we have to go." Everest then ran, she looked back once to see if the River elf was close to her and sure enough she was. Everest then asked in her head, Who are you? In reply Everest heard in her head,

" My name is Castcata of the River elves, but you can call me Cascade if you want to." Everest then thought, We can go through the back alley to get to the building but I warn you what you are going to see is going to be a bit... shocking. Then Everest continued down the rode until she turned down an alley and hid behind a building. She waited for the large crowd to pass before crossing the alleyway to go behind another building. She then stopped at a window which was a little higher than she was and said out loud to Cascade,

" I need your assistance to get up to that window." Cascade nodded and bent down with her hands on her knee. Everest put her foot on her hands and reaching for the window seal she pushed herself up. She peeked over and saw both the boys still sleeping on the bed just under the window, suddenly she saw Isaac turn and he was already near the edge of the bed but by turning it made him fall to the ground with a thud, Oh. Thought Everest as she winced. She saw Isaac get up and stretch sleepily. This was Everest's chance to get his attention so she started to knock on the window and yell,

" Isaac, right here... Look! Over here!" Isaac looked up and his eyes went wide as he said,

" Everest? What are you doing out there?" He bent down and started to stir Ethan awake. When Ethan woke up Isaac pointed to the window and Ethan quickly unlatched the window pulling it up saying,

" Everest whats going on?" Everest took no time to say,

" Just let us in and then we'll talk." As Ethan helped her climb in she heard him say,

" Us?" Everest rolled onto the bed landing in a sitting position on the edge. She then said,

" Pull her up!"

" Who's her?" asked Isaac just as Ethan started to pull Cascade up and through the window. Everest got off the bed as the two of them fell. Ethan shook his head and said,

" Well, what a rude awakening... Now Everest will you please explain who this, this... other elf is?" Everest helped Cascade up off of Ethan and said,

" Ethan, Isaac... This is Cascade, she is a river elf, she was one of my enemies but not any more, I hope." Added Everest muttering the last part to herself. Everest then walked over to the window that was by the door and looked out to see a mob of people in the streets. One of them, the man that was standing next to Cascade earlier was holding a short sword, but as Everest squinted closer she realized that it was no ordinary sword. Everest moved away from the window and said,

" Everyone, we need to get out of here, now!" Isaac asked in a concerned way,

" Why?" Everest walked over and said,

" Because theirs an angry mob outside that wants to kill us, now we need to keep moving." Everest went to the window and looked outside to see a few people looking in the alleyway. Everest then pulled her head back in whispering,

" Theirs a few people looking right there as well, we need to go on the roof." Cascade then said,

" Let me give you a lift then." With that she conjured up a blast of water from her hands and hit it up into the air to the ceiling, the blast was so powerful it went right through the roof. Cascade held a hand up to the hole in the roof and asked,

" Who's first?" Everest answered quickly saying,

" Ethan, get up their fast, so you can help Isaac get up, then Cascade and finally I'll go." Cascade nodded, suddenly they heard a bang at the locked door, Everest knew who it was and so did Cascade as she said,

" Uh, Everest we better make this quick other wise we might be burnt toast." As Ethan put a foot on Cascade's hand which was again resting on her bent knee pushed himself up so that he could reach the roof. The roof was low enough for him to grab it so he was able to pull himself up. Once on the roof he quickly turned around and looking down at the others he said,

" Alright, send Isaac up!" Everest peeked out at the glass window and saw multiple people now using sticks and pieces of wood to break open the locked door. Everest saw the door jiggle each time they hit the door, she looked back and said,

" Guys! We need to go, like now!" She then saw that Isaac was dangling from Ethans hands saying,

" Isaac you'r about to slip!" Everest then ran and caught Isaac just as his hands slipped. She then said,

" Cascade, you need to transform into a Raptorwing, people are deathly afraid of it." Cascade nodded and stood up, her hands were open, palms up to her side and slowly a blueish white flash lit the room. Everest pulled Isaac under the bed with her. Everest closed her eyes as the light got brighter, then it started to descend to normal lighting. Everest opened her eyes and saw the feathered winged creature with two long legs for running and two shorter arms with long needle like claws. Eyes were in front of its head and it had feathers at the back of its head. The Raptorwing was standing in the same place that Cascade was standing and it looked around the room in short movements, suddenly as the door burst open, the Raptorwing quickly looked up and cocked its head at the group of people who looked confused. The Raptorwing then cautiously moved in a circular motion around to the men who was the first to enter the room. Everest watched in aww as the Raptorwing sniffed the man then started to walk back into the center of the room. Everest caught the man start to realize that the man started to relax. But As the man and the group of people started to fill the room, the Raptorwing gave a shrieking sound and then lept onto an older man and put one of her hooked foot claws into his heart. The people started to scream and shriek then quickly started to chase after the people and into the village. Everest crawled out and said,

" Isaac, you and Ethan follow me so we can hide, then I'll go find Cascade so we can get out of here." Everest then pulled Isaac out from under the bed and said,

" Ethan, come down from there!" When Ethan landed and stood up from the ground he looked around and immediately spotted the dead body laying on the floor saying,

" Wow! Why is their a dead body here... Isaac, Everest wait up, what did I miss!" Added Ethan as he followed Everest and Isaac out of the house. Everest led them to the edge of the village and looked out, the wind was picking up and she didn't want them to be out in the cold so she brought them back into the village. Then she brought them to and deserted barn, the only living things in the barn were a couple of horses. Everest brought them to an empty pen and helped Isaac over the gate while Ethan climbed over it himself, but before he hopped in with Isaac he asked Everest,

" Everest, just becarful when you go finding Cascade." Everest nodded and said,

" Don't worry, I'll be okay." Everest then ran out of the barn and then moved to lean against the side of the building, she then muttered to herself,

" Alright, let's find Cascade." With that she closed her eyes and thought in her head, Cascade where are you? We need a plan to get out of here! Almost immediately a voice in Everest's head said,

" I'm by the town square I have struck down a couple men who tried to kill me but otherwise I'm okay, and I may have an idea on how to get out of here." Everest then took off towards the town square. Once Everest got to the square she just came in time for Cascade to turn back into her normal self and fell to the ground, but it wasn't at a good time. A man holding a hoe came over and held it up, Everest suddenly felt a feeling of protection. Everest ran as fast as she could and just as the hoe was about to hit Cascade, Everest jumped and kicked the man into the frozen fountain. The ice covered water broke and cold water made the man jump out as quick as he could. Everest turned and bent down to help Cascade up to the fountain saying,

" Cascade, talk to me, are you okay." She didn't talk so Everest decided to read her thoughts and what she heard was,

" Water, I need Water to recharge my powers... Water, I need water to recharge my powers." Everest then took a deep breath and heaved her over to the broken ice part where fresh cold water was trying to wash over the ice that was still covering part of the water. Cascades hands then lit up and her viens in her hands turned bright blue. Everest knew that this was how she could recharge her powers but as she was about to stand up she saw a man come and try to hit her in the head with a shovel. Everest held the shovel up with one hand and quickly kicked the man in the stomach making him fall to the ground.  He ran back just as another man came and tried to punch Everest. Instead of attacking she moved over and grabbed his arm swinging him around till she let go and made him land far off down the street. A couple more men started to attack them and she punched one of them, dodging his own attacks until she finally elbowed him in the chest, she turned just as the second man was about to bring down his hoe on her. She dodged out of the way and watched as the hoe got stuck in the rocks. She then simply let him continue trying to pull the hoe out while another man came, as she fought them off she said,

" Cascade, if you'r ready, now would be a good time to get going!" Just then Everest felt someone behind her grab hold of her arms and pulled them back. This made the person fall since she was holding up his arms. Everest tried to throw him off her but it was no use. The man said,

" I like your spirit, thinking you could take us all on... but high spirits only go so far, now it's time for you to repay the damage you've done." With that someone else grabbed her and she was put on her knees. Everest watched as the man who was first holding her uncloaked himself. Everest then realized it was the same person who had captured Cascade! He grabbed his sword and held it up saying,

" This sword is the sword of all life, it can take the life of someone else's and give it to another." Everest noticed that it had a green tint to it and realized that it must have belonged to a nature elf.

" So, you going to strangle me with vines or something?" Teased Everest. The man looked at her curious and said,

" Wait, it can do that?" Everest snickered before saying,

" No, but if you were secretly a nature elf then yes." The mans hopes seemed to drain from him and in anger he said,

" Alright I have had enough of your tricks, your time is up... Mist elf!" Everest bit her lip and she looked at Cascade to see her start to slowly stand up. Then Everest changed her expression to a confident face as she said,

" I wouldn't be so sure about that." The man gritted his teeth and didn't say anything... suddenly a bright flash of light came from Cascade and she let the light grow bigger than it did last time, till it finally dimmed down a little to its normal state. But in the place of where Cascade was standing was a large light blue scaled dragon. Everest watched, her face light up and her mouth open with a smile as she saw Cascade spread her large powerful wings and raise her neck, then she gave a loud roar that seemed to blow away the cool wind out of the village. She then used her tail  to swipe the men off their feet and Everest along with it. But while the two men landed on their back and faces, Everest was able to do a flip with her body curled up like a ball and she landed feet first. Everest looked back up at Cascade and thought, Wow! I didn't think you could do that! Cascade thought in response,

" Yeah, when I first tried this transformation I was really  young so it turns out that I became a baby dragon, and now that I've grown I'm a teen dragon." Everest then thought, Ha! I bet your parents got a kick out of that... I wish I could do that, I've always wondered what it would be like to fly. Suddenly she saw Cascade dip the wing nearest to Everest down so that she could climb on. Everest smiled and climbed up. Once on top of Cascades back and hanging onto one of her scales she said out loud,

" Alright! head to the barn, thats where I hid the boys." At that Cascade raised her wings high in the air and with a lurch she was in the air, pumping her wings up and down to keep in the air. As they gained height Everest looked down and could see the tops of houses and shops, and the barn. Everest then said out loud,

" This is Amazing!" Suddenly she felt Cascade start dipping quickly, so Everest pressed herself against Cascades blue scales. Finally, it stopped and they were landing on the ground. Cascade gave a loud roar and Everest heard Cascades voice in her head say,

" That should get them out of there." No surprise, the noise brought Isaac outside and with wide eyes and opened mouth she said,

" Wow! Cascade this is amazing!" As Everest slide down to help Isaac up Cascade's dipped wing she asked,

" Where's your brother?" Suddenly Ethan came out and at the sight of Cascade his eyes went wide and his mouth was wide open. He managed to say,

" Wow." Before Cascade's roar to hurry up took over the conversation. Ethan quickly climbed and sat behind Everest who sat behind Isaac and said,

" Alright Cascade! Let's do this!" With that Cascade raised her wings one last time and roared as she lifted off. Everest felt the wind blow her black hair back and it apparently was hitting Ethan in the face. Everest looked back and said,

" Isn't this amazing!... Woohooo!" She spread her arms out to either side acting as if they were wings and continued to feel the cool breeze brush past her face and blow her hair behind her. She felt all her worries of once being a terrible assassin disappear and she didn't have a care in the world.

                                             ******

They continued to fly all through the night, it was Everest who couldn't sleep and stayed up all night with Cascade who was flying. The sun finally started to peek over the horizon and Everest felt as if they were descending from the sky at a fast pace. She closed her eyes and went into Cascade's thoughts which said, Tired, so very tired, can't fly... any longer. Everest opened her eyes and yelled,

" Cascade, land in those trees, now!" Cascade did what she was told but she must have landed too hard because immediately when Everest felt the jolt both boys woke up, startled. Everest quickly climbed off Cascade and ran over to where her head lay on the grass saying,

" Cascade, are you okay?" Everest looked deep into her thoughts and said,

" I'm fine Everest, just tired." Everest nodded and thought, Change back then we can find a place to sleep and rest up. At that Cascade changed back into her normal self and started to groan. Everest thought that something was wrong and sure enough there was... Ethan and Isaac had fallen back asleep and they didn't notice Cascade change back into elf form so they were still on top of her. Everest walked over and pushed Ethan off Cascade saying,

" Come on you big lumps of wood sap, time to get up!" She pushed Isaac off  of Cascade and then helped Cascade up. Everest has always been a night person but by the time the sun came up she was too tired. Everest walked with Cascade who was somewhat limping and stumbling over her legs. The boys where up and walking right behind them, and it wasn't until the sun was high in the sky that Everest found a small area in the trees that was totally closed off from sunlight and it was shaded. She laid Cascade down on the ground which was covered in pine needles. Everest hadn't noticed till she laid down and looked at the tops of the trees that were like pointed pillars. She realized she was back in the mist territory of Dragomia. She was home. Finally, she had some time to take in the sweet yet stiff air into her nose. The water filled air stung her nose each time she breathed in but the scent of pine trees helped her breath through it. The scents helped her fall asleep and she didn't get cold when ever a small cool breeze blew at her. She slept calmly all through the day and night. It wasn't till the next morning that she finally woke up. Everest's eyes fluttered open and she sat up stretching her arms. Everest then stood up and saw Isaac drawing in the dry dirt with a stick and Ethan was laying against the tree napping. She then looked around the tree and saw that Cascade wasn't there. She walked over to Isaac and asked,

" Hey, Isaac were's Cascade?" Isaac looked up at Everest and said,

" Oh, Everest your up... You slept for a long time. Oh, Uh... Cascade, she went to get some berries and water." Everest smiled and said,

" Okay, If Cascade comes back and I'm gone tell her I went for a walk to stretch my legs." Isaac bent his down again and looked back at the dirt saying,

" Okay..." With that Everest walked out of the circular clearing that was surrounded by large pine trees. As Everest walked she breathed in and out the sweet yet stiff watery air. She then decided to climb a pine tree. Her open tipped finger gloves helped her climb faster since with the gloves on the pine needles didn't hurt her. Everest climbed to the top without it tipping and she looked out into the world to see a few mountains and flying figures in the distance. There was one part that caught her eye though. It was a valley that seemed to be protected by a thick group of trees. She saw a thick mist at the edge part of the valley and all around it. Everest smiled and said out loud,

" My home is closer than I thought." Everest smiled and climbed back down the tree. She continued to walk but in another direction, scouting the area. Everest suddenly heard something, she flicked out both her blades from her belt and held them out in front of her. She crossed her legs as she stepped in a circle, still moving forwards so no one could sneak on her from any direction. Everest then saw a tint of yellow move from behind a bush a little ways from her. Everest narrowed her eyes as she moved closer to it. Suddenly her elf ears caught the sound of something behind her, but when she looked she didn't see anything. Everest continued to move till she came to a small sunny clearing. Suddenly someone yelled,

" Fire!" With that a net came down on Everest too quick for her to react upon. Everest tried to get the net off her using her blades but they just got tangled. Everest then saw a shadow coming towards her in the daylight she looked up to see a figure with a sword at her side and a helmet on her head. Everest narrowed her eyes and the soldier said,

" Where are you keeping the princes?" Everest narrowed her eyes and asked in a stern voice,

" What princes? Do I look like some kind of royal elf princess to you!?" The soldier then said,

" The Princes that you have captured and are taking to your home. Where are they?" For a few moments Everest just stared at the soldier, and as she did she communicated with Cascade thinking, Cascade, get to Ethan and Isaac, Now! Some kind of weird warriors are looking for them and I am trapped. Head west and you will get to a valley where my home is. You can hide the egg there, just show them and tell them that I have sent you, and try to act friendly to them, please. Everest said in reply to the Soldier,

" Fine, I'll show you to them." The soldier narrowed her eyes and said,

" Yes, but the net stays on you." Everest narrowed her eyes and she struggled to get up as she tripped on the net. Everest then walked back to their camp where they have been staying for the last couple of days. Everest then thought, Oh and Cascade, leave something that belongs to you so that I don't get killed. Immediately, Everest heard the voice of Cascade in her head say,

" Alright, we are leaving now, but all I have is my arm band and it was a gift from my leader, I don't want to lose it." Everest felt bad she was making Cascade let go of a special artifact that was obviously very important to her. So Everest thought, If you leave it behind as a decoy so I won't get killed, I promise I will bring it back when I escape. Cascade seemed to be over joyed to hear that in her head because in response she said,

" Oh thanks Everest, that would be very nice of you, thank you." Everest smiled thinking, I guess we might not be so different after all. Cascade said in response,

" Yeah, I used to think you were hunter and you hunted anything you came across, but I'm starting to think you guys are more resourceful than we thought." Everest smiled again and continued to walk back to their camp.
